Position: Hybrid in Office Tuesday-Thursday
What you will be doing
- GIS Data Management:
- Assist in collecting, organizing, and maintaining spatial data for GIS applications, ensuring data accuracy and integrity.
- Perform data entry, quality control, and updates to GIS databases using various software tools such as ArcGIS and QGIS & specifically IQGeo.
- Import, clean, and validate geographic and attribute data from various sources, including field data and third-party providers.
- Map Creation & Visualization:
- Create and maintain high-quality maps, charts, and visualizations to support various departments, including engineering, operations, and project management.
- Utilize GIS software to generate thematic maps, perform spatial analysis, and present data in a clear and actionable format.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to understand mapping needs and provide tailored solutions.
- Spatial Analysis:
- Perform basic spatial analyses, such as buffer creation, network analysis, and spatial queries, to assist in decision-making processes.
- Support the identification of spatial patterns, trends, and relationships through GIS tools and techniques.
- Conduct geocoding and mapping of data to support project planning and operational needs.
- GIS Support & Troubleshooting:
- Provide day-to-day GIS technical support to internal users, helping troubleshoot issues related to GIS software and data.
- Assist with training sessions and help users understand how to effectively utilize GIS tools for their projects.
- Contribute to the development and documentation of GIS procedures and best practices.
- Data Analysis & Reporting:
- Assist in the analysis of spatial and non-spatial data to generate reports that support organizational decision-making.
- Prepare and present data analysis findings in a variety of formats, including tables, graphs, maps, and written reports.
- Collaborate with team members to analyze trends, patterns, and anomalies in GIS data.
Job Environment
The Systems (GIS) Analyst I is an entry-level position responsible for supporting the development, maintenance, and analysis of geographic information systems (GIS) to support decision-making within the organization. This role involves working with spatial data, creating maps, performing data analysis, and contributing to the development of GIS solutions. The Systems (GIS) Analyst I works closely with internal teams and stakeholders to ensure that GIS functions properly and effectively used in various business processes.Expect to work in a dynamic environment where priorities and duties may shift quickly. ** Job duties and responsibilities may be shifted as needed by Management to meet the needs of the business
What you will need
- Basic proficiency in GIS software, such as ArcGIS, QGIS, or similar platforms.
- Familiarity with spatial data formats, databases, and data collection methods.
- Basic understanding of cartography principles and map creation techniques.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to work with complex datasets.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present technical information clearly.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities
- 0-2 years of experience in GIS or a related field, with familiarity in spatial data management and analysis.
Education:
Related field experience, technical school, or college preferred in GIS, computer science.
