We’re seeking a sharp, business-minded Product Counsel to partner with our Product, Engineering, and Go-to-Market teams to ensure our products are built and delivered in a legally compliant and commercially sound way. This is a contract position with a high potential to convert to full-time based on performance and business needs.You’ll serve as the primary legal point of contact for product development, advising on regulatory requirements, risk mitigation, and creative, business-oriented solutions.This role is perfect for someone who loves building close relationships with cross-functional teams, thrives in a fast-paced environment, and can translate complex legal concepts into actionable, practical advice.
Day In the Life
- Serve as the primary legal advisor to Product and Engineering teams from ideation to launch.Proactively identify and address legal issues in product design, feature development, and customer implementation.
- Draft, review, and negotiate product-related terms in customer, vendor, and partner agreements.
- Monitor and interpret applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards (e.g., privacy, data protection, consumer protection, payments, labor compliance).
- Build scalable processes to ensure legal compliance while enabling product velocity.
- Partner with Privacy and Security teams to implement best practices in data handling and governance.
- Create and deliver training for internal stakeholders on product-related legal considerations.
- Track and respond to regulatory changes that may impact products or services.
Who You Are
- J.D. degree (or equivalent) and active license to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction.
- 4–8 years of relevant legal experience, ideally including both law firm and in-house product counseling.
- Experience advising on technology, SaaS, platform, or fintech products.
- Strong knowledge of at least one of the following: privacy/data protection laws, consumer protection, employment law, payments, or IP.
- Excellent judgment with the ability to balance legal risk with business objectives.
- Exceptional communication skills, able to work seamlessly with technical and non-technical teams.
- Comfortable operating in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
Preferred Skills (Not Required)
- Prior in-house counsel experience at a startup or high-growth tech company.
- Experience with international product launches and global regulatory frameworks.
- Familiarity with restaurant, hospitality, or payroll/HR industries (if relevant).

Salary Range
In compliance with the California Pay Transparency Law, the salary for this role as a contractoris $75 to $100 per hour in San Francisco. This does not include our equity package. When determining a candidate’s compensation, we consider a number of factors including skill set, experience, job scope, and current market data.
