Job Title: SENIOR MEDICAL EDITOR
Job Purpose:
The Senior Medical Editor is responsible for ensuring and applying the highest level of quality and consistency utilizing various levels of editorial review of all assets related to promotional, scientific, and/or educational programs for our pharmaceutical and biotech clients. The Senior Medical Editor performs all editing, proofreading, and fact-checking tasks, working closely with the Project Coordinators, Project Managers, Medical Directors and Writers, Creative, and Account teams to ensure all content meets the style requirements of each client.
Responsibilities:
Proofread/edit/fact check assigned projects, based on the requirements and timelines of the project.Maintain and update client/brand style guides, as well as changes in AMA guidelines, FDA regulations, and PhRMA codes.Confirm requirements for permissions while fact checking and notify team of need for permissions.Work with team members to establish editorial-related timelines for completion of various tasks (eg, length of time required for fact-check vs proofread of a core promotional slide deck) at the onset of a project.Maintain and drive appropriate levels of editorial reviews, ensuring the appropriate level of review is utilized based on the project specifications and client-related needs.Proactively communicate with team members, as necessary, to complete assignments according to predetermined timelines and provide solution-based recommendations to ensure timelines are maintained and quality is not impacted.Understand company SOPs.Execute all aspects of administrative responsibilities (eg, timesheets, Outlook calendar) in an appropriately detailed and timely manner.Attend project kickoff meetings for assigned brands; attend internal status meetings for assigned brands when time and workload allows.Mentor junior editorial team member(s).Assist Manager in managing editorial freelancers by assessing skill level, negotiating hourly rates and determining the need to outsource based on workload.Other duties and assignments as directed.Qualifications:
Minimum 5-7 years of medical/scientific editing and fact checking.Medical education agency experience preferred; pharmaceutical ad agency experience acceptable.Thorough knowledge of AMA style, medical terminology, FDA regulations, and familiarity with client styles.Strong and demonstrable proofreading, editing, and fact-checking skills in ProofHQ, Evolution’s digital routing system.Strong skills in time management, prioritizing, organizing, researching and problem solving, with attention to detail and ability to adhere to deadlines.Commitment to quality.Ability to complete projects in a fast-paced environment and be a self-motivated team player.Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.Open and engaging communication style, both oral and written, that is proactive and positive.Availability to work outside of normal business hours as needed.Proficiency: Should be advanced skill level in PowerPoint, MS Word, and Adobe Acrobat; should strive to be advanced skill level in MS Excel, MS Outlook.Working Environment:
Normal office environment. May require evening and weekend work.
