Energy Engineer
Hybrid Position
MD Energy Advisors (MDEA) is a rapidly growing energy management company that provides Commercial, Utility, and financial solutions for clients across the United States. As part of our partnership with Morgan State University, we are hiring an Energy Engineer to support the University’s energy management and sustainability initiatives. The Energy Engineer will work partially onsite at Morgan State University, providing technical support and project management assistance for ongoing energy initiatives.
The role will involve commissioning oversight, energy benchmarking, project closeout support, training, and data management. This is a unique opportunity to work closely with a leading academic institution to advance their energy efficiency and sustainability goals.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Monitor the commissioning process for capital projects and energy efficiency measures
- Track commissioning deficiencies and ensure timely resolution
- Provide regular updates on commissioning progress to stakeholders
- Assist with energy benchmarking activities using ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager
- Provide support for Building Energy Performance Standards (BEPS) compliance reporting
- Conduct visual inspections to verify completion of Energy Conservation Measures (ECMs) and project closeouts
- Review of change orders for project
- Identify quality issues or red flags during site visits
- Process and organize project documentation
- Review and validate newly installed meter data for accuracy and completeness
- Provide coaching and shadowing support to MSU staff members to build internal energy management capacity
- Assist with retro-commissioning, hands-on testing and commissioning activities as needed
- Train in the use of the State’s EnergyCap software
- Enter energy data and assist with generating reports for internal and external use
- Support compliance reporting related to BEPS and other sustainability requirements
- Assist with energy auditing as needed
QUALIFICATIONS
Self-motivated, results-oriented, and capable of working independently as well as part of a team.Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy Engineering, Construction Management or a related field2+ years of relevant experience in commissioning, energy auditing, construction project management, or energy managementFamiliarity with ENERGY STAR® Portfolio Manager and/or EnergyCap or similar energy management softwareStrong understanding of building systems (HVAC, lighting, controls)Excellent organizational and communication skillsProficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)CEM certification or PE license (or actively pursuing)Experience with energy benchmarking and BEPS complianceExperience with construction documentation and project close outExperience in an academic or institutional environmentKnowledge of ASHRAE commissioning processesBENEFITS
