Job Summary:eQuip (a division of AssetWorks USA, Inc.) develops and implements asset management solutions for defense manufacturers and others with complex asset tracking and compliance needs.
Join a small, high-impact team that’s transforming several long-lived, monolithic products into a cloud-native platform built on Kubernetes and modern AI tooling. You’ll architect and ship microservices at scale and help the team adopt “agentic” development practices—leveraging autonomous coding agents and large-language-model tooling to accelerate delivery.
Job Description:
Key Responsibilities
- Microservice Architecture: Design, build, and operate fault-tolerant Go/Java/Python/TypeScript services on Kubernetes; champion service-mesh, observability, and GitOps CI/CD pipelines.
- Legacy-to-Cloud Migration: Decompose existing monoliths, write migration playbooks, and shepherd data-model & API transitions with zero-downtime cut-overs.
- AI-First Engineering: Pilot and integrate AI coding agents (e.g., Copilot Agents, Claude Code) into day-to-day workflows; automate repetitive coding tasks, tests, and docs.
- Agentic Coding Evangelism: Coach teammates on prompt design, guard-railing, and quality controls for autonomous coding tools; codify best practices in CLAUDE.md / internal runbooks.
- Technical Leadership: Set coding standards, drive design reviews, and mentor mid-level engineers to a senior bar.
- Dev Excellence: Own uptime, security, performance, and cost optimization across multiple environments (dev → prod).
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years designing & shipping production microservice systems on Kubernetes (EKS/GKE/AKS or on-prem).
- Deep knowledge of containerization (Docker), service discovery, API design (REST/gRPC), and distributed tracing/logging.
- Proficiency in at least one statically typed language (Go, Java, C#) and one scripting language (Python, TypeScript, Bash).
- Production CI/CD ownership (GitHub Actions, Argo CD, Tekton, or similar).
- Proven record of leading refactors or migrations from legacy stacks to cloud-native architectures.
- AI-First mindset – daily use of LLM assistants, willingness to experiment with autonomous agents, and curiosity about agentic workflow design.
- Strong written & verbal communication skills in English; able to collaborate across remote-first teams in NA time zones; able to advocate for one’s own point of view and express the “why” behind proposal alternatives
- High EQ- Ability to “read the room,” meet independently with customers, collaborate with cross-functional teams and grow/develop strong internal and external relationships
Preferred / Bonus Skills
- Familiarity with service-mesh (Istio/Linkerd), policy-as-code (OPA), and secure software supply chain (SLSA, SBOM).
- Hands-on knowledge of event-driven patterns (Kafka, NATS) and domain-driven design.
- Exposure to regulated industries (finance, healthcare, identity & access management, etc.).
Work Environment & Benefits
- Remote-first with optional hub meet-ups; hardware & co-working space reimbursement.
- Flexible core hours (9 a.m.– 3 p.m. ET) allows for overlap from Pacific to Eastern time zones.
- Comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.
- Generous vacation, paid learning days, and annual budget for conferences or AI tooling subscriptions.
