Director of Rehabilitation

We are stronger together, have more impact together, and have more fun together!The Director of Rehabilitation will be primarily responsible for the rehabilitation of musculoskeletal injuries and conditions of the Players. This role will report directly to the Head of Medical and communicate daily with the High-Performance Staff. Under the guidance of the Team Chief Medical Officer/Team Physician(s), the director will coordinate evaluations, rehabilitation protocols, plan of care, communication with relevant stakeholders, maintain progress notes, and discharge notes on all Players as indicated.

These notes must be kept on file in the NWSL Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system.

Responsibilities


Work in collaboration with the High-Performance staff and under the guidance of the Team CMO/Team Physician(s):  

  • Lead delivery of rehabilitation process for all medium to long term injuries.
  • Lead finalization and enhancing the provision of evidence informed return to play phases aligned with current club processes.
  • Lead multidisciplinary meetings to update player status, roundtable player needs with core staff and determine next phases at regular and timely intervals.
  • Review delivery of programming at regular intervals to evaluate impact and effectiveness.
  • Manage any offsite or specialist care included/required in the RTP Process.
  • Systematically evaluate player progression through relevant and applicable performance testing, using contemporary technologies.
  • Lead sharing of quality and relevant soccer research to high performance staff at periodic intervals – (i.e. In-service).

  • Provide regular and informative updates to senior management as determined by the Head of Medical or Sporting Director.
  • Assist with the delivery of gym-based strength and conditioning as needed.
  • Create holistic plans that include monitoring any changes in mental, psychological, nutrition status, and physical health of the Players during their rehabilitation and discuss with/refer to appropriate Team Staff as indicated.
  • Comply with OSHA standards regarding blood-borne pathogens.
  • Provide up-to-date physical therapy evaluation, plan of care, progress notes, and discharge notes maintained in the League’s EMR system and required club documentation.
  • Demonstrate interpersonal skills required to work effectively with other High Performance Team members, Players, Coaches, other Team personnel and League staff.
  • Maintain professional liability insurance.
  • Compile reports as required by the League.
  • Comply with all League medical policies and protocols.
  • Abide by all local, state, and federal laws and regulations specific to their profession, codes, and standards of their governing bodies, and all applicable League Rules and Team policies
  • (e.g., informed consent, medication management, etc.).
  • Attend all activities/meetings/programs as required by the League.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or required by the League.

Educational Experience


  • Minimum four (4) years’ college/university bachelor’s degree
  • Master’s degree (MPT) or Doctor of Physical Therapy degree (DPT)

Licenses or Certifications


  • National Physical Therapy Exam (NPTE)
  • State license in California or ability to be licensed in a timely manner.
  • In good standing with California or current state licensure board.
  • CPR certification in Basic Life Support
  • Boarded certified as a Sports Clinical Specialist (SCS)
  • Additional recommended certifications: Orthopedic Clinical Specialist (OCS), BOC Certified Athletic Trainer, Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), Corrective Exercise Specialization (NASM-CES) and/or Performance Enhancement Specialization (NASM-PES).

Professional Requirements


  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience as a physical therapist since receiving licensure.
  • Minimum three (3) years’ experience in a similar role in a team sports environment leading RTP for elite-level athletes (i.e. Professional, Olympic)
  • Soccer experience preferred.

Compensation
