In this role, you'll work directly under our Principal Data Platform Engineer to implement platform improvements, maintain critical infrastructure, and guide teams on best practices for working within our data ecosystem.
About the Role
We're seeking a Senior Data Platform Engineer with strong expertise in cloud data platforms and infrastructure management to help us implement and maintain our data platform vision. You'll be working hands-on with our established data platform that serves hundreds of data consumers daily, focusing on the critical infrastructure that keeps our data ecosystem running smoothly and efficiently.This is a hands-on, technical role focused on implementing platform improvements, maintaining infrastructure reliability, and enabling teams to work effectively within our data platform.
You'll work closely with our Principal Data Platform Engineer to execute strategic initiatives while serving as a subject matter expert for teams using Databricks and other Azure services.The successful candidate will be passionate about data platform engineering, comfortable working with cloud infrastructure at scale, and committed to helping teams succeed through technical guidance and best practices. You'll contribute to a collaborative environment where platform reliability and developer experience are paramount.
What You'll Do
- Implement and maintain data platform infrastructure using Terraform, Azure services, and our broader technology stack
- Work directly with the Principal Data Platform Engineer to execute strategic platform improvements and architectural initiatives
- Maintain and optimize Databricks environments, including cluster configurations, job scheduling, and performance tuning
- Provide technical guidance and best practices to data engineering teams working within our platform
- Monitor platform performance and reliability, proactively identifying and resolving infrastructure issues
- Collaborate with teams to troubleshoot platform-related issues and optimize their use of Azure data services
- Maintain and improve our Unity Catalog configurations, ensuring proper governance and access controls
- Support the implementation of compliance requirements (HIPAA) across our multitenant data platform
- Contribute to platform documentation, runbooks, and best practice guides
- Work with DevOps teams to implement CI/CD pipelines for data platform components
- Participate in on-call rotations to ensure platform availability and reliability
What We're Looking For
- 5-7 years of data platform or infrastructure engineering experience with hands-on expertise in cloud platforms
- Strong proficiency in Azure services (Databricks, SQL Server, EventHub, Storage, etc.) and cloud infrastructure management
- Experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) and version control (Git) for platform management
- Hands-on experience with Databricks administration, including cluster management, job optimization, and Unity Catalog
- Knowledge of data platform architectures and experience maintaining large-scale data infrastructure
- Strong understanding of Python and SQL for platform automation and troubleshooting
- Experience with monitoring and alerting systems for data platform reliability
- Familiarity with compliance requirements and security best practices in cloud environments
- Excellent communication skills and ability to guide teams on technical best practices
