Summary of Responsibilities:
The Refunds Specialist is responsible for processing and overseeing the completion of all refunds to members.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Review, validate and enter incoming member refund applications into the benefit system.
- Review and validate member account, contributions and employer payroll information.
- Update member person demographic information
- Calculate and audit lump sum refunds and rollovers of member account contributions including Required Minimum Distributions.
- Communicate with members via correspondence, phone or email regarding their SERS membership or refund of their account.
- Communicate with other retirement systems regarding verification of member status
- Communicate with school districts to validate member employment information.
- Create Reemployed Annuity Estimates
- Create applications and calculations for Reemployed monthly annuity and lumpsum annuity refunds
- Assist the Member Support Team with questions generated from phone calls
- Ensures the confidentiality, integrity, and security of all Personally Identifiable Information (PII) and Protected Health Information (PHI) data by strictly adhering to federal and state laws, regulations, polices, and best practices for data protection and access control.

Educations and Skills/Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalent
- One to three years of experience
- Excellent attention to detail
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to adapt to a fast-paced environment
- Ability to effectively understand another’s feelings and emotions
- Desire and drive to acquire knowledge and skills necessary to perform job more effectively
