Role Summary:


The Sr. Manager, FP&A is responsible for providing strategic and operational finance business partnership to functional area leads of the organization. Support will include financial ownership of actual spend vs. budget, reforecasting, annual budgeting and long-range planning. Scope includes budgeting, forecasting, account analyses and monthly account accruals. This role requires a strategic thinker with excellent analytical skills, exceptional communication skills, accuracy and a proven track record.

The ideal candidate will have deep financial expertise, strong analytical skills, effective communication and presentation skills (Powerpoint) and the ability to work across disciplines in a dynamic environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 


  • Full ownership within the finance group to provide clear and consistent financial management information for functional area leads.
  • Working with functional leaders to build and manage detailed budgets and forecasts.
  • Providing financial transparency for management through developing and delivering financial reporting at the company, department, project and transaction level.
  • Organizing and analyzing data queries to translate general ledger transactional data into meaningful business operational information.
  • Work with Finance organization to enable and assist:
  • Month-end financial accrual processes, including support for R&D specific accruals.
  • Quarterly financial review and reporting of variances associated with period over period trends; budget and forecast
  • Review variance analysis with functional leadership and recommend changes to plans as appropriate.  
  • Develop strong relationships with members of the broader Finance organization and support special projects and ad hoc analyses as necessary.
  • Lead the preparation and analysis of quarterly forecasts, ensuring accurate and timely submissions
  • Prepare recurring and ad hoc presentations for a variety of internal and external stakeholders 
  • Collaborate with key stakeholders to develop or improve existing processes and reporting, successfully implement changes where appropriate. 
  • Work closely with other members of the broader Finance organization to maintain a continuous improvement mindset and promote strong communication and efficient processes
  • Collaborate with multiple departments to gather essential data and insights
  • Provide explanations and variance analysis to prior year and prior forecasts
  • Identify key drivers of performance discrepancies
  • Support planned ERP implementation project
  • Create and maintain financial models (primarily budget and forecasting) that help guide near and long-term planning and decision making. 
  • Lead the long-range planning, annual budgeting, monthly reporting, and continuous reforecasting processes to assist in finance and corporate strategic efforts.
  • Lead the maintenance and update of the long-range financial model. 
  • Conduct scenario and sensitivity analyses 
  • Support and provide financial analyses and insights for forecasting and ongoing accounting support  
  • Assist with the Company’s annual compensation cycle.
  • Assist with various accounting related activities and journal entries, specifically clinical trial and R&D accruals, etc.
  • Ad-hoc financial analysis support

Education and/or Work Experience Requirements: 


  • BA/BS Degree in Accounting/Finance with 5 years of progressive experience in finance with a focus on FP&A.
  • 3+ years of work experience in biotech / pharma industry, R&D experience required
  • Proven ability to work with a high level of integrity, accuracy, and attention to detail
  • Experience utilizing financial reporting tools for budget, forecast, and reporting processes
  • Demonstrated experience with annual budgets, variance analyses, forecasts, NPV models; budget system implementations a plus
  • Advanced Excel-based modelling experience.
  • Advanced PowerPoint skills to create compelling management presentations 
  • Strong analytical and strategic thinking skills. 
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally and influence senior leadership.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Initiative-taking and able to work independently. 
  • Resourceful, motivated, and able to identify potential issues or problems and find solutions. 
  • Experience with forecasting and creating strategic presentations for management, and Finance group to support ongoing account analyses
  • Demonstratable success in building cross-functional relationships, providing business support and fostering collaboration across the accounting team, as well as with other corporate functions to ensure targeted business results. 
  • Demonstratable ability to operate independently in an entrepreneurial environment
  • Highly motivated, decisive, and results-oriented individual with the flexibility and creativity to excel in and contribute to a rapidly growing company.
