The Senior Portfolio Analyst will contribute to and support the management and risk analysis of the investment strategies and portfolios of Venerable.This includes understanding various aspects of the investment portfolio, investment strategies, and risk analysis as well as interfacing with external Investment Managers, internal business partners and senior leadership.Primary responsibilities will involve comprehensive support and contributions to the management of the investment portfolios of Venerable which includes:
- Development of strategic and tactical asset allocations for the Venerable investment portfolios supporting individual products.
- Contributing to liquidity management, including monitoring daily liquidity needs and the Reinsurance Trusts, recommending and implementing actions needed to maintain appropriate levels of liquidity, interfacing with Treasury on short- and long-term cash needs and projections, and maintaining potential FHLB borrowing program.
- Contributing to the development and monitoring of compliance with the Investment Management Agreements with external investment managers as well as compliance with any Investment Guidelines and Investment Policies.
- Development and enhancement of new and existing investment portfolio dashboards and asset reporting.
- Development and enhancement of new and existing asset portfolio processes to ensure accuracy across asset cash flows and book yields.
- Interfacing with Risk, Investment Operations, Treasury, and Finance teams as needed.
- Maintaining understanding of product liability structures, asset-liability management needs and relevant legal entity structure, including Reinsurance trusts.
- Demonstrating understanding of the investment income and yield component of earnings, capital, or other financial metrics and communicate results as needed.
- Analyzing cash flow, duration or other ALM needs and assisting the Senior Portfolio Manager in incorporating needs into investment strategies and investment portfolio management.
- Supporting and contributing to the partnership with Risk Management to analyze risk, ALM, and hedging strategies for specific liability types and their integration with Venerable’s investment strategy.
- Sustaining knowledge concerning industry or peer activities and trends relating to Insurance investment portfolios, demonstrating an understanding of the implications for Venerable.
Key Required Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 - 5 years as an Insurance or Fixed Income Portfolio Analyst
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, Actuarial Science, Data Analytics, or related field.
- Knowledge of fixed income instruments, private equity, portfolio management, derivatives, asset-liability management, insurance company regulations, and insurance capital frameworks; knowledge of variable annuity products/liabilities a plus
- Knowledge of structured asset classes a plus
- Experience with Bloomberg, Clearwater and/or BlackRock Aladdin a plus
- Highly analytical, strong oral and written communication skills, detail oriented with strong problem-solving skills, able to work in fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.
- Chartered Financial Analyst or progress towards CFA designation or Actuarial designation a plus
- Well versed with Microsoft applications, particularly Excel and Powerpoint
