The Role


This role's open to a EU remote locations.


We are looking for an experienced Director of Engineering to lead one of our core product and technology areas. This is a key leadership role, ideal for someone with strong technical expertise, a proven track record of building high-performing teams, and a focus on delivering meaningful results. You’ll help us scale effectively while staying agile enough to respond to customer needs and shifting market dynamics.

Key Responsibilities


Leadership & Strategy

  • Lead multiple engineering teams with a clear vision, measurable objectives, and strong execution
  • Define and communicate engineering direction, investment priorities, and performance expectations
  • Represent engineering at the executive level and contribute to overall product and business strategy
  • Ensure technical decisions are aligned with business goals and commercial impact

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Work closely with Product, Sales, Support, and Marketing to deliver features that support growth
  • Balance short-term customer demands with long-term platform stability and technical health
  • Make informed decisions on when to build, buy, or defer capabilities
  • Take ownership of roadmap delivery, ensuring clear accountability and consistency
  • Collaborate with other Engineering Directors across the organisation

Technical Leadership

  • Oversee the design and implementation of scalable, reliable systems leveraging:
  • AWS services (especially Lambda)
  • Modern containerisation tools (Docker, Kubernetes)
  • Operational AI/ML (e.g., recommendation engines, scoring systems, translation intelligence)
  • AI use in development processes
  • Advocate for simplicity, security, and maintainability in system design
  • Establish and uphold high standards for architecture, technical direction, and design processes

Team Development

  • Manage and develop Engineering Managers and senior-level engineers
  • Build autonomous, empowered, and results-driven teams
  • Own team planning and hiring strategy within your area
  • Promote a culture of ownership, inclusion, quality, and continuous learning
  • Mentor and grow future engineering leaders

Organisational Impact

  • Create systems and processes that support long-term scaling
  • Measure and optimise engineering performance using actionable insights
  • Maintain strong communication channels between teams and leadership
  • Influence broader business decisions through thoughtful collaboration

Requirements


Required

  • 3+ years in senior engineering leadership roles, including managing managers
  • Hands-on experience with:
  • AWS (Lambda, ECS, S3, CloudWatch, etc.)
  • Docker, Kubernetes, and container orchestration
  • Live AI implementations and AI in software development
  • Demonstrated ability to lead across multiple products or business units
  • Strong commercial acumen with the ability to align technical execution to business value
  • Effective communicator with a track record of cross-functional collaboration

Preferred

  • Background in SaaS or localisation/internationalisation technology
  • Experience building developer platforms or tools
  • Knowledge of multilingual AI or NLP systems
