We are seeking a highly skilled Mainframe CICS/MQ Administrator to join our team and lead critical upgrades and optimizations of IBM MQ and CICS environments. This role is ideal for a seasoned professional with deep technical expertise in IBM MQ internals, CICS transaction processing, and large-scale mainframe infrastructure. You’ll play a pivotal role in system upgrades, performance tuning, integration efforts, and production stability, collaborating closely with cross-functional teams to deliver secure, high-performing systems that meet evolving business needs.

Key Responsibilities


  • Perform installation, upgrade, and maintenance of IBM MQ and CICS products.
  • Configure and tune CICS regions and MQ environments for performance, reliability, and scalability.
  • Monitor system health using tools like RMF, SDSF, and SMF to analyze and optimize performance.
  • Manage system security, including RACF configurations, encryption practices, and access control.
  • Lead disaster recovery efforts, backups, and failover planning for high-availability systems.
  • Integrate CICS with DB2, IMS, APIs, and middleware components such as z/OS Connect.
  • Troubleshoot complex system issues using dump analysis, debugging tools, and root-cause diagnostics.
  • Create and maintain detailed technical documentation for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Stay current through continuous learning platforms (e.g., IBM Z Xplore, Interskill Learning).
  • Collaborate with developers, DBAs, and infrastructure teams to support operational stability.

Requirements


  • 15+ years of experience working with IBM MQ, CICS, and mainframe systems.
  • Deep understanding of CICS architecture, BMS, macro-level commands, and transaction processing.
  • Proven expertise in IBM MQ configuration, queue management, message routing, and channel setup.
  • Strong experience in full-cycle MQ upgrade projects, including planning, risk assessment, implementation, and validation.
  • Familiarity with system integration involving DB2, IMS, and middleware APIs.
  • Proficient in mainframe security concepts, including RACF.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work cross-functionally in enterprise environments.
  • Detail-oriented with strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor junior engineers and contribute to knowledge sharing within the team.
