Research Associate I

We are seeking a highly motivated and qualified individual to join our Discovery Chemistry Department as a Research Associate and work as part of a team to drive success. Ideal candidates will be self-motivated, independent, committed to the generation of high-quality data within a fast-paced and innovative research team. The Research Associate will support ongoing RNA-based drug discovery projects in several therapeutic areas.  

Essential Responsibilities:

• Purify oligonucleotides using preparative HPLC
• Purification analysis and identification using analytical HPLC and ESI-LC/MS
• Desalt purified materials by TFF, MWCO, AKTA Flux, or desalting columns on AKTA Pure
• Concentrate final product on the Genevac, lyophilizer, or MWCO
• Quantify amount of oligonucleotides synthesized with the NanoDrop
• Maintain and troubleshoot all equipment used in purification

• Anneal single strand oligonucleotides to double stranded siRNA and analyze by HPLC
• Formulate compounds for in vitro and in vivo scale studies
• Test final material for endotoxin, viscosity, and osmolarity
• Develop and promote a work place culture that values diversity of thought, promote integrity and create an atmosphere that supports coaching and fosters accountability.
• Carry out assigned laboratory functions applying knowledge and skill in an accurate, timely manner.
• Establish and maintain excellent working relationships with critical collaborative partners throughout the company.
• Manage and maintain equipment, reagents and dedicated laboratory environment needed to carry out assignments.
• Maintain updated and well-organized lab notebooks.
• Execute daily laboratory operations with an approach designed to minimize risks and hazard waste streams.
• Maintain all appropriate corporate standards for facility safety and hazardous material management.
• Other duties as assigned.

Essential Physical Characteristics:

On-Site Protocol:

• B.S. in Chemistry, Biochemistry degree with excellent understanding of organic and analytical chemistry.
• Experience working in a chemistry laboratory.
• Experience with a wide range of analytical techniques, especially HPLC and/or LCMS.
• Self-motivated, detail oriented and excellent problem-solving ability.
• Strong problem-solving skills and a proactive attitude towards exploring new approaches.
• Proficiency working with Microsoft Office Suite Products.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Prior experience in biotech/pharmaceutical industry a plus.
• Previous experience with RNA/oligonucleotide therapeutics is preferred but not essential.
• A track-record of impacting drug discovery programs through driving projects to key decision points.
• In-depth knowledge of modern organic synthetic methods, purification and analytical techniques as well as medicinal chemistry.

• This is a full-time position, Monday-Friday, occasional overtime.
