Reporting to the firm’s Managing Partners and partnering with the equity investments and debt capital markets teams, this strategic, growth-oriented role will be instrumental in expanding the firm’s direct lending and structured finance footprint, focusing on senior loans, bridge, mezzanine debt, preferred equity, and other customized capital solutions secured or backed by retail and mixed-use collateral. This entrepreneurial role will collaborate across the company to establish and refine best-in-class relationship management, underwriting, asset management, and servicing processes for our growing private credit business. Duties include:
Origination & Sourcing
Proactively identify and originate debt investment opportunities secured or backed by retail and mixed-use collateral through broker networks, sponsors, bankers, and direct relationships with real estate owners across the countryDevelop and maintain relationships with sponsors, developers, and capital markets intermediaries
Deal Structuring & Execution
Lead the structuring, negotiation, and execution of credit investmentsOversee transaction underwriting including valuation, credit analysis, legal review, and risk assessmentManage the investment committee presentation process, including preparing and presenting detailed memos and models. Ensure each deal fits into fund investment strategies and meets target performance objectives.
Market & Credit Analysis
Analyze property-level financials, operating statements, rent rolls, tenant creditworthiness and performance, and borrower business plansConduct market research and track macroeconomic and capital markets trendsEvaluate borrower and guarantor creditworthiness, collateral value, and exit strategies across various geographies and asset classes
Team Leadership & Collaboration
Mentor and supervise junior professionals on underwriting, due diligence, and investment analysisCollaborate cross-functionally with legal, capital markets, investments, and asset management teams to ensure transaction integrity and performanceSupport portfolio monitoring and post-closing activities for originated investments to mitigate downside risk and provide a seamless borrower experienceRequirements
- Strong network of commercial real estate sponsors, brokers, and borrowers
- Differentiated approach to create new relationships and garner repeat business
- Deep understanding of real estate asset fundamentals, capital markets, and structured finance
- Deep understanding of real estate private equity including experience with debt funds and private credit vehicles
- Proven ability to lead complex transactions from origination through closing
- Exceptional financial modeling, underwriting, and credit analysis skills
- Experience with floating-rate, transitional, and construction lending
- Highly developed verbal and written communication skills
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail
- Team-oriented and collaborative
- 7+ years of private credit experience, including 3+ years of direct originations experience
Education
Bachelor’s degree in finance, commercial real estate, economics or related field
