Engineering Manager, Risk

We’re looking for an Engineering Team Lead to lead the Decision team, within our Risk Infra group. The Risk Infra group builds the foundational systems that enable all of Melio’s fraud and compliance defenses.
The Decision team is the owner of the core engines that allow making accurate and reliable automatic decisions at a high scale, allowing or preventing operations within the applications. These decisions help protect Melio from fraud, abuse, and compliance risks.

What you'll do


You’ll lead a team of backend engineers working closely with fraud analysts and data scientists to turn insights into scalable, reliable logic.You’ll also build and maintain the user-facing APIs that power our fraud prevention systems, enabling real-time decisions across the company, at high scale and with minimal latency.

Qualifications: 


  • 5+ years of professional experience as a backend oriented software engineer.
  • 3+ years experience managing a team of engineers.
  • A deep understanding of production systems and the architecture of distributed systems.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and adapting quickly to changing priorities.
  • A reliable peer, with a strong sense of ownership, a can-do attitude and excellent collaboration and communication skills.
  • A bar raiser, passionate for mentoring and personal growth processes.

Bonus points:


  • Experience in the Fintech or Risk domain, especially fraud prevention or compliance
  • Experience with AWS infrastructure

A day in the life and how you’ll make an impact:


A day in the life includes leading a team of backend engineers while staying hands-on with technical work. You'll collaborate with Product and Analytics and many other teams, groups and functions to define and deliver impactful projects, set goals and priorities, and ensure smooth execution of the roadmap. You'll also play a key role in hiring and team growth, supporting your engineers’ development through mentorship and ongoing feedback. Along the way, you'll dive into Melio’s fraud detection domain, helping shape the architecture and logic behind our decision systems.

The Engineering department is the backbone of Melio. We provide consultation, support and designs for technical solutions—supporting our customers and the entire organization. We get involved from the early stage of a project, making the connection between customer needs, our product design, and then translating these into solutions.

In Melio, we are all in with AWS Serverless. Meaning all our services are managed by AWS and our infrastructure is deployed using SAM CLI built over CloudFormation.Serverless gives us the freedom to build, scale and deploy applications faster than ever.
