Electrical and Instrumentation Technician

Job Summary


The Electrical and Instrumentation Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and upgrading all mechanical, electrical, and facility-related systems and equipment. This role combines core functions of electrical, mechanical, and general facility maintenance to support a high-performance manufacturing environment. Responsibilities will include both preventative and corrective maintenance on industrial machinery and building infrastructure. 

Job Duties and Responsibilities


  • Responsible for the maintenance, repair and installation of industrial equipment and machinery.
  • Constructs and fabricates replacement parts to repair equipment using hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.
  • Troubleshoot hydraulic and pneumatic controls and systems.
  • Stays up to date on preventative and predictive maintenance practices, including the use of a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Plan mechanical assembly of equipment/components.
  • Interfaces with operations, maintenance and various technical disciplines when developing and resolving issues with project requirements.
  • Troubleshoots NCs and drives on CNC equipment.
  • Diagnoses equipment or machinery and conducts assessment and testing for unstable equipment to advise on the ability to use the equipment.
  • Completes various electrical projects which require knowledge of all AC/DC electrical systems from 5VDC - 600VAC single and three phase.
  • Completes reprogramming of machinery through the use of PLC programs and diagnostics on multiple platforms and systems. 
  • Ability to integrate automated components like (servers, timers, switches, etc.) on older machinery.
  • Programing and troubleshooting Programmable Logic Controller (PLC) equipment.
  • Orders specialized supplies and equipment as needed.
  • Stays informed of OSHA jobsite and manufacturing plant safety requirements.
  • May perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Specifications


Skills

  • Ability to work well within a team setting.
  • Intermediate computer skills in Microsoft Office.
  • Knowledgeable in writing/editing PLC programs on multiple platforms.
  • Knowledgeable in ladder logic troubleshooting.
  • Ability to troubleshoot NCs on CNC equipment.
  • Familiar with AC/DC electrical systems from 5VDC – 600VAC single and three phase.
  • Ability to prioritize tasks and work independently or in a team environment.
  • Knowledgeable in NFPA 70E and OSHA manufacturing safety expectations.

Education

  • Required: High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Preferred: 2 or 4-year degree in mechanical, technical, or related degree.
  • Preferred: Certification in related trade school.

Work Experience

  • Required: 2 years of previous work experience in building systems (electrical, heating, or plumbing).
  • Preferred: 2 years of general work experience in carpentry, plumbing, air conditioning.
  • Preferred: Previous work experience in troubleshooting mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical circuits. 

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift, climb, bend, stoop, push, and pull frequently. 
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 lbs. of equipment (pumps, tools, ladders) and safely install rigging/lifting devices.
  • Ability to regularly crouch and reach to install/move equipment by bending forward at the waist or by bending legs and spine.
  • Ability to move between departments, and properties to facilitate work.
  • Able to read blueprints and schematics.
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, capable of listening intently, visual acuity to process paperwork. 
  • Ability to work in cold, hot, and or dusty environment, with noisy conditions and occasionally outside in the elements.
  • Must be able to travel for maintenance support required at branch locations.
  • Continuous standing and/or walking.
  • Good eye/hand/ foot coordination.
