This is a hybrid position with 2 days in the Columbia, Maryland office, and 3 days work-from-home.The Accounts Receivable Specialist plays a critical role in ensuring the accuracy and timeliness of billing and collections. This position is responsible for preparing and managing customer invoices, verifying and recording payments, maintaining aging schedules, and responding to customer inquiries. This is a detail-oriented, high-impact role essential to supporting the organization’s financial health.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare and issue accurate customer invoices in a timely manner.
- Monitor and manage aging accounts; follow up on outstanding receivables.
- Verify and record incoming payments, ensuring proper allocation.
- Respond promptly to customer inquiries related to billing and payments.
- Maintain accurate AR records and documentation in QuickBooks Online.
- Work closely with internal teams to resolve discrepancies in billing or payment processing.
- Prepare AR-related reports and assist with audits as needed.
- Contribute to process improvements that enhance efficiency and accuracy in the receivables function.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience focused on accounts receivable or billing.
- Strong experience with QuickBooks Online.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office tools.
- Demonstrated success in managing aging accounts and improving collection timelines.
- Excellent communication skills and customer service orientation.
- Keen attention to detail with the ability to work independently and resolve issues proactively.
- Experience with cost or project accounting is a plus.
