Description
Mindera is looking for a Technical Product Owner with specialist experience in payments to join our retail and e-commerce engineering teams. You’ll play a key role in a multi-team payments transformation programme, working closely with software engineers, architects, and business stakeholders to define, deliver, and evolve next-generation payment capabilities.You’ll act as the bridge between business and technology, owning the product backlog, shaping the roadmap, and ensuring the engineering team delivers secure, compliant, and seamless payment experiences at scale.
Please note, this is an initial six month contract that sits outside IR35. You will be required to travel on-site to London, Paddington 3 days a week.
Key Responsibilities:
- Serve as Product Owner within an agile engineering team, managing and prioritising the payments backlog to deliver high-quality, iterative value.
- Define and own the payments product roadmap, balancing customer experience, compliance, and technical evolution.
- Lead initiatives across PSP integrations, payment orchestration, tokenisation, refunds, chargebacks, reconciliation, and alternative payment methods.
- Collaborate with engineers to design and evolve API-driven payment flows, ensuring scalability, observability, and resilience.
- Ensure compliance with PCI DSS, PSD2, SCA, and regional regulations.
- Use data-driven insights to optimise authorisation rates, transaction performance, and cost efficiency.
- Partner with finance and operations on settlement, reconciliation, and reporting enhancements.
- Manage relationships with acquirers, payment gateways, and fraud vendors.
- Communicate complex payment and platform concepts in clear, outcome-oriented terms.
- Foster agile best practice and collaboration across multiple engineering squads in the transformation programme.
Requirements
- Experienced Product Owner or Product Manager with a track record in payments, fintech, or large-scale retail e-commerce.
- Deep understanding of end-to-end payment flows, from authorisation and capture to settlement and reconciliation.
- Hands-on experience with tokenisation, 3-D Secure (SCA), wallets, fraud management, and multi-PSP orchestration.
- Strong analytical skills — able to interpret transaction data and diagnose issues across complex systems.
- Comfortable operating within an engineering-led environment, engaging in discussions on APIs, architecture, and service dependencies.
- Skilled in Agile delivery (Scrum/Kanban) with proven backlog management and prioritisation capability.
- Excellent stakeholder management and communication skills.
- Collaborative, pragmatic, and delivery-focused, with strong attention to detail.
