Job Title: Explosive Safety Support (SME)
Job Location: Albuquerque, NM
Job Description
We are seeking an Explosive Safety SME to support the Defense Threat Reduction Agency (DTRA) in ensuring safe and compliant handling, storage, and transportation of explosives used in high-consequence testing operations. This role involves oversight of explosive test activities, liaison support with national and international agencies, and post-test hazard mitigation, requiring expert-level knowledge of DoD explosive safety protocols and field operations.
Must have an active and transferable DoD security clearance with current investigation at the required level. Must be able to maintain the required clearance
Required Education/Experience:
* Active Top Secret (TS) security clearance; must be eligible to obtain SCI.* Bachelor’s degree with 10+ years of relevant experience in explosive safety or EOD-related roles.* Graduate of the Department of Defense Joint Service Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Training Program.* Demonstrated expertise in explosives handling, safety oversight, and UXO mitigation.* Strong communication skills to interface with diverse test teams and government stakeholders.
Required Certifications/Training:
1. Munitions Certification applicable to test site requirements.2. OSHA 511 and 510 Courses3. HAZWOPER (40-Hour) – 29 CFR 1910.1204. Permit-Required Confined Space Training – 29 CFR 1910.1465. CPR and First Aid Certification
Required Skills:
* Oversee explosive operations to ensure compliance with all applicable DoD, federal, and site-specific safety standards.* Plan and support explosives recovery operations, including coordination with national agencies and foreign programs as required.* Serve as Safety Officer during explosive test events and exercises.* Conduct post-test hazard abatement to address structural damage, debris, and potential unexploded ordnance (UXO).* Maintain munitions certification and ensure proper safety procedures are implemented in all phases of explosives handling and testing.* Communicate effectively with test teams to provide guidance on explosive safety protocols, risk mitigation, and response plans.
Desired Skills:
