Full-time, TemporaryDescriptionThe Atlanta Botanical Garden’s Conservation & Research Department is seeking a motivated Field Technician to support ecological restoration activities as part of the "Revegetating Coastal Wet Prairies of the Northwest Florida Sentinel Landscape" project, funded by the Department of Defense through the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation’s America the Beautiful Challenge.Working under the supervision of the Field Biologist, the Field Technician will assist in restoring native plant communities, enhancing pollinator habitat, and supporting at-risk species across Deer Lake State Park.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career to gain practical experience in field ecology, pollinator monitoring, and habitat restoration. This is a full-time, temporary position with benefits scheduled to run from August 1, 2025, through July 30, 2028, based in Walton County, FL.

RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assist with vegetation and pollinator monitoring, including recording floral resources and observing pollinator activity (with training provided)
  • Support plant outplanting and seed collection activities across restoration sites
  • Help conduct basic hydrology and wildlife monitoring, including presence/absence of amphibians and reptiles
  • Accurately collect and record field data using Survey123, ArcGIS Field Maps, and handheld GPS units
  • Organize and maintain field gear, data, and samples before and after site visits
  • Collaborate with the Field Biologist and broader project team to complete daily fieldwork efficiently and safely
  • Participate in community volunteer planting events and assist with general project logistics
  • Help create simple maps and summaries to support internal tracking and partner communications
  • Limited travel to Atlanta, Georgia or additional sites in the Florida Panhandle may be required

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • B.S. in Biology, Ecology, Environmental Science, or a related field preferred; relevant field experience may substitute
  • Comfort working in outdoor field conditions including high heat, humidity, and uneven terrain
  • Basic familiarity with Florida Panhandle plant or pollinator species is a plus, but not required
  • Willingness to learn technical tools (e.g., ArcGIS, GPS devices) and ecological monitoring methods
  • Good organizational habits, attention to detail, and ability to follow directions in a team setting
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs and work in wet, buggy, or otherwise challenging conditions
  • Ability to maintain focus and reliability in a dynamic outdoor work environment
  • Flexible, team-oriented, and able to adapt to changing schedules or weather conditions

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS:


  • Ability to organize detailed data and coordinate schedules with other coworkers and partners
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to effectively respond to multiple, changing, and often conflicting priorities is essential
  • Must be able to effectively interact with the general public and co-workers and peer professionals
