Change.org is seeking a Senior Accountant to support the Finance team’s day-to-day operations and provide accurate financial information to stakeholders.
From mobilizing over 5 million people to investigate the fires in the Amazon, to mobilizing nearly 3 million against war and famine in Yemen, to large-scale mobilizations for the people of Iran and against the war in Ukraine, and calling for Racial Justice in the US, many movements were born on Change.org. We want to help them go even further, and we need your help! This position will support on all aspects of our accounting work, such as balance sheet reconciliations,  month-end close activities and financial reporting, cash management, and other special projects as needed. This role reports directly to the Director of Finance and is based in the US.

We need a problem solver who can think critically about our internal processes and drive long-term solutions for the company. You’ll work alongside other super-talented individuals who will inspire and challenge you to think about how accounting can contribute to business decisions.

As a member of our team, you will:


  • Assist with the monthly and year-end accounting close activities, calendar and deliverables, including preparation and review of journal entries, reconciliations, and flux variance analysis
  • Identify opportunities for process efficiencies and implement enhancements that will ultimately improve the overall efficiency of the Accounting process and procedures.
  • Ensure financial records are maintained in compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Maintain and administer company credit card program to ensure compliance with company policy and timely reporting.
  • Maintain company controls, including but not limited to cash controls
  • Provide timely and accurate accounting information to users/vendors on an ad hoc basis
  • Own balance sheet reconciliation tasks
  • Assist in AP software implementation

  • Convey information clearly and effectively, and adjust one's communication style to suit different audiences and situations.
  • Comfortable utilizing spreadsheets to manipulate complex data
  • Knowledge of basic accounting principles

Target background/experience:


  • 5-7 years of hands-on accounting experience with strong knowledge of GAAP, including basic accounting operations, cash reconciliations, accruals, prepaid, and balance sheet reconciliations
  • Bachelor’s degree or foreign degree equivalent in Accounting, Economics, or related.
  • Experience must include the following:
  • GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles);
  • Financial analysis;
  • Audit preparation;
  • AR (Accounts Receivable), AP (Accounts Payable), and GL (General Ledger) accounting;

Additional experience we are looking for: 


  • Experience working in a start-up environment. 
  • Experience with the tools we primarily use: Coupa, Corpay
