Head of Engineering
Location: Remote (Canada-based with Vancouver, Calgary or Toronto preferred)Salary: $200,000 CAD + 25% bonusWe’re looking for a strong engineering leader to take the reins of our growing our clients' team. As Head of Engineering, you’ll lead a small team of backend and frontend developers while shaping the technical direction of their platform. This role blends hands-on technical strategy with people leadership, ensuring they ship secure, reliable, and forward-thinking products that help their customers get the most out of tax credits.
What You’ll Be Doing:
- Lead, coach, and develop a team of engineers, helping them grow their skills, hit their goals, and do their best work.
- Set the technical direction for the team and make sure it aligns with company objectives and product priorities.
- Oversee architecture and development of backend systems (primarily Node.js and Python), with a focus on clean code, scalability, and strong observability.
- Champion DevOps best practices: CI/CD, infrastructure as code (Kubernetes, Helm, Terraform), and cloud tooling (GCP).
- Work closely with Product, Data, and Customer Success teams to bring valuable, customer-first features to market.
- Drive and fine-tune our engineering processes (they use Kanban), keeping delivery efficient and team morale high in a remote/hybrid setup.
- Act as a technical sounding board across the company—communicating trade-offs, risks, and decisions to both engineers and executive stakeholders.
- Stay on top of emerging technologies and tools, evaluating what’s worth bringing in to keep us modern and competitive.
What We’re Looking For:
- Experience managing engineering teams and helping individuals grow into leaders.
- A strong background in backend development using Node.js and Python, with production experience in cloud infrastructure (GCP), containerization (Kubernetes), and DevOps workflows.
- Familiarity with MongoDB, Redis, MySQL, and event-driven architectures.
- Clear, confident communicator—able to translate technical decisions into business impact.
- Comfortable zooming out to think strategically, while still being able to go deep when needed.
