Accountant
The Accountant ensures accurate financial recordkeeping, smooth day-to-day operations, and compliance with accounting standards. Responsibilities include managing accounts payable/receivable, processing payroll, reconciling accounts, and preparing financial reports. The role also maintains proper documentation for tax filings and supports budgeting and cash flow management.This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional who enjoys maintaining organized financial systems and thrives in a collaborative environment.Duties and Responsibilities:Financial Recordkeeping & Reporting:
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting standards.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
- Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
- Track and report on firm profitability, expenses, and cash flow.
Accounts Payable & Receivable:
- Process vendor invoices, expense reports, and firm payments.
- Manage client billing, including trust account reconciliations
- Monitor accounts receivable, follow up on overdue payments, and assist with collections.
Payroll & Tax Compliance:
- Process payroll, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations.
- Assist with tax filings, including sales tax, payroll tax, and business tax returns.
- Work with external CPA firms for annual audits and tax preparation.
Trust Accounting (IOLTA Compliance):
- Maintain and reconcile client trust accounts in compliance with legal accounting rules.
- Ensure proper handling of client funds and adherence to state bar regulations.
Financial Systems & Process Improvement:
- Utilize accounting software (e.g., QuickBooks, Xero, or legal-specific platforms) to streamline processes.
- Identify opportunities for cost savings and operational efficiencies.
- Assist with financial software implementation and upgrades.
Desired Skills:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA or CMA a plus).
- Experience: 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a law firm or professional services environment.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in QuickBooks (or similar), Excel (advanced functions), and legal billing software (a plus).
- Knowledge: Understanding of GAAP, trust accounting (IOLTA), and tax compliance.
- Soft Skills: Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, and ability to meet deadlines.
- Communication: Ability to work collaboratively with attorneys, staff, and external vendors.
Preferred Experience (Not Required):
- Familiarity with property tax appeal processes or real estate accounting.
- Experience with legal trust accounting and compliance.
Compensation and Benefits:
- Competitive salary starting $65,000, commensurate with experience
- 120 hours of PTO after a 90-day probation period
- Typically, 17+ paid holidays per year.
