RF Tuner Technician


Summary:


Performs testing, tuning, and troubleshooting of RF and microwave components in a production environment, using specialized laboratory equipment. Works under limited supervision and reports to the Production Lead.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Test and tune RF and microwave components such as bias tees, RF filters, multiplexers, and other passive components in both production and R&D settings.
  • Use Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs), Spectrum Analyzers, Oscilloscopes, and other RF test equipment for measurements and diagnostics.
  • Tune high-frequency RF circuits with small hand tools; work with surface-mount components, capacitors, coils, substrates, solder, and epoxies.
  • Interpret technical documentation, including schematics, blueprints, travelers, and work instructions.
  • Perform troubleshooting, rework, and validation of non-conforming units.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve technical issues and improve yield.
  • Follow all safety and quality protocols and complete all documentation as required.

Qualifications:


  • Experience: 2–5 years in RF/microwave electronics (preferably in filters, amplifiers, or radar systems).
  • Education: High School diploma required; technical certificate or associate degree preferred.
  • Technical Skills:
  • Hands-on experience tuning RF filters using VNAs.
  • Familiarity with high-power RF testing and/or probe station use is a plus.
  • Basic computer skills for test data entry and documentation.
  • Soft Skills:
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to read technical documents and communicate effectively.
  • Good problem-solving skills and mechanical dexterity.

Physical and Work Environment:


  • Light physical demands: occasional lifting up to 10 lbs, fine manual work, and visual inspection.
  • Work performed in a quiet, laboratory-style production environment.
  • Occasional exposure to mechanical parts, fumes, and electrical components (PPE provided).
