The Role


Cockroach Labs is seeking an accomplished and strategic Vice President, Corporate Controller to lead and scale our global accounting function. Reporting directly to the CFO, this executive will oversee all core accounting operations while shaping the financial infrastructure needed to support our continued growth and path to becoming a public company.This is a highly visible and cross-functional leadership role. You will be responsible for global compliance, financial reporting, internal controls, tax, treasury, and the design of scalable systems and processes.

You will also be a key partner to senior leadership on financial strategy, risk, and operational excellence.

You Will


  • Lead all global accounting functions including General Ledger, A/R, A/P, Revenue Recognition (ASC 606), and International Entity Accounting
  • Oversee the full close and reporting process, delivering accurate and timely financial statements for internal and external stakeholders
  • Establish and maintain a strong internal control environment aligned with US GAAP and public company standards (SOX readiness)
  • Drive financial systems strategy, including oversight of the ERP (NetSuite) and revenue recognition systems, with a focus on automation and scale
  • Manage global tax, compliance, audits, and statutory reporting across multiple jurisdictions
  • Own relationships with external auditors and advisors; manage 409A valuations, annual audits, and tax planning
  • Lead treasury strategy, including banking relationships and capital structure planning in partnership with the CFO
  • Collaborate closely with FP&A to ensure integrity of key SaaS financial metrics and business analysis
  • Build and develop a high-performing, globally distributed accounting team with strong succession planning and leadership development
  • Play a key leadership role in preparing the organization for an IPO, including public company reporting, systems, and governance readiness

The Expectations


  • First 30 Days:Partner with the CFO to align on priorities. Deep dive into systems, team capabilities, and key financial processes.
  • By 60 Days:Build trusted relationships across the leadership team. Begin optimizing close, controls, and tax workflows. Initiate the roadmap for IPO readiness.
  • By 90 Days:Deliver a comprehensive:
  • Three-year roadmap for accounting policy, controls, and compliance
  • Systems roadmap focused on revenue infrastructure and automation
  • Scaling plan for the accounting function to meet global growth and public company standards 

You Have


  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
  • Active CPA license required
  • 15+ years of progressive accounting experience, with 5+ years in a senior leadership role (e.g., Controller, VP, or equivalent)
  • Experience at a Big 4 firm strongly preferred
  • Proven leadership in a late-stage private or publicly traded SaaS company
  • Successful track record in IPO preparation and/or operating in a public company environment
  • Deep expertise in US GAAP, ASC 606, and SaaS financial reporting metrics (ARR, NRR, CAC, etc.)
  • Strategic systems thinker with experience owning enterprise finance platforms (e.g., NetSuite, revenue automation tools)
  • Strong executive presence and ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence at the board and C-level
  • Global leadership experience and international compliance exposure are strongly preferred
  • Demonstrated curiosity and awareness of finance innovation, including automation and AI-driven efficiencies

The annual anticipated base salary range for U.S. candidates for this role is listed in USD below. Salary is one component of the Cockroach Labs’ Total Rewards package, which also includes, for each employee: stock options, medical insurance, vision insurance, dental insurance, life and disability insurance, funds towards professional development resources, flexible paid time off, 11 paid holidays a year, 10 paid sick days a year, paid parental leave, a 401(k) plan, and wellbeing benefits.  We set standard ranges for all U.S.-based roles based on function, level, and geographic location, benchmarked against similar stage growth companies.

Actual salaries may vary and fall outside of this range depending on factors such as a candidate’s qualifications, geographic location, skills, experience, and competencies. In addition, we are often open to a wide variety of profiles, and recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced (or more senior) than this job description as posted. Salaries for candidates outside the U.S. will vary based on local compensation structures. This position will remain posted until filled.
