Part-timeDescriptionThis is a part-time to full-time position funded up to 1040 hours at a pay rate of $18.54/hour. Weekly hours can be flexible. The Atlanta Botanical Garden invites applications for the Conservation Documentation Technician position. The successful candidate will work under the supervision of the Conservation Database Research Engineer to assist with documenting protocols and procedures, accessioning the ABG Conservation Collections, and maintaining the Brahms plant records database.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


  • Assist the Conservation & Research Department with documentation of Standard Operating Procedures, Plant Collection Policies, and Accessioning Policies
  • Identify and coordinate with Conservation & Research Department coworkers to address Data Quality Campaign issues/creating new Data Quality Campaigns when needed
  • Maintain detailed records of all data collected according to standard operating procedures
  • Assist with accessioning conservation collections plants at the Atlanta Botanical Garden and the Conservation Safeguarding Nursery in Gainesville, GA
  • Maintain accurate labeling; coordinate and produce accession tags and display labels and coordinate their placement on plant specimens
  • Work with team members to create Standards and Documentation for yearly Plant Material inventorying
  • Assist in the maintenance of the BRAHMS Conservation Collections plant records database
  • Maintain electronic maps of the Conservation Safeguarding Nursery and Conservation Collections using BRAHMS. ArcGIS, and Survey123

Requirements

QUALIFICATIONS


  • Must be able to work autonomously responsibly
  • Must be able to understand system dynamics/design
  • Must be detail-oriented, adaptable, and outcome-oriented
  • Prefer bachelor’s degree in plant biology, Botany, Biology, Conservation, or related field.
  • Minimum of one year of prior work experience
  • Prefer prior experience with GIS
  • Must be willing to pursue free external education for missing preferred qualifications when requested (geospatial, botanical, data analysis, etc)
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lb. 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS


Ability to spend long periods at a computer. Ability to work outside in a wide range of weather and temperature extremes. Must be able to climb three flights of stairs.

MENTAL REQUIREMENTS


The ability to effectively identify, judge, and address conflicting priorities is essential. Must be comfortable effectively interacting with the general public, co-workers, and peer professionals.
