ROLE SUMMARY
As an Electrical Controls Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, implementation, and ongoing support of industrial control systems across Flow’s advanced manufacturing equipment. This role includes working across departments to define, develop, and integrate motion control and automation solutions from concept through production, supporting both new and existing product lines.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Participate in cross-functional engineering efforts to evaluate, design, and implement control system solutions aligned with product and business needs.
- Design and develop industrial control systems, including motion control, PLC programming, and system architecture.
- Collaborate with development partners, software engineers, and internal teams to co-develop solutions or implement enhancements to existing systems.
- Support the full product development lifecycle, from requirements gathering and system design through testing and post-release support.
- Generate and review electrical schematics, panel layouts, and assembly drawings using SolidWorks Electrical and other ECAD tools.
- Develop, test, and deploy PLC and motion control programs using platforms such as Omron Sysmac Studio, Siemens TIA Portal, or DeltaTau PMAC.
- Integrate and validate real-time communication protocols such as EtherCAT, Modbus, Ethernet/IP, and Sercos III.
- Support system and sub-system validation testing in coordination with software teams.
- Assist in the creation of design documentation, including compliance to applicable standards (e.g., NFPA 79, CE directives).
- Provide sustaining engineering support for legacy systems, identifying areas for improvement in reliability, performance, and cost.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: NoneTRAVEL: 10% at most; Occasionally travel to customer sites for system commissioning, testing, and support.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
- $80,000 – $105,000, commensurate with experience

QUALIFICATIONS
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:
- Strong experience in designing and developing industrial control systems and motion control solutions.
- Proficiency in PLC programming and configuration, with knowledge of industry-standard platforms and languages (IEC 61131-3, C/C++).
- Demonstrated experience with servo motor/drive selection, tuning, and implementation.
- Experience with control system electrical design including schematics and component selection.
- Understanding of digital control networks and real-time protocols.
- Familiarity with version control tools (e.g., Azure DevOps, Git).
- Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills; able to work on live machines during development and testing phases.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly document designs and processes.
- Working knowledge of applicable electrical and safety standards such as NFPA 79 and CE machinery directives.
EDUCATION and EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Mechatronics, Robotics, or a related field.
- Minimum 5 years of experience in industrial automation, motion control systems, or electrical control design.
- Master’s degree in a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in CNC motion control, robotics, or high-precision automated machinery.
