Director, Operational FP&A

SUMMARY:


The Director, Operational FP&A will lead financial planning and analysis across Baylor Genetics’ operational functions, including Laboratory Operations, R&D, Product Development, and other support departments. This role will serve as a strategic finance partner, delivering insights and decision support to drive operational efficiency, cost management, and strategic growth to help functional teams achieve their short- and long-term goals.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
  • Experience:
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in financial planning and analysis, ideally in diagnostics, biotech, or healthcare.
  • Deep understanding of commercial finance, pricing, and payer reimbursement dynamics.
  • Advanced Microsoft PowerPoint, Excel and financial modeling skills; experience with ERP and BI tools (e.g., NetSuite, Tableau, Workday Adaptive, Power BI).
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills with the ability to influence cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Detail-oriented, analytical, and proactive in identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • Excellent in time management - proven ability to work on and manage multiple projects within tight timelines and in a fast-paced growth environment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Forecasting & Planning
  • Lead the development of annual budgets and long-range strategic plans for operational departments (Lab, R&D, Product, and G&A).
  • Collaborate with department leaders to align financial plans with operational goals and resource needs.
  • Monitor and update forecasts based on business performance and evolving priorities.
  • Business Partnering & Decision Support
  • Serve as a trusted finance partner to operational and commercial leaders.
  • Provide ad hoc financial modeling and scenario planning for strategic initiatives such as RFPs, new market entry, and channel strategy.
  • Support resource allocation decisions through rigorous financial impact analysis.
  • Project Finance
  • Build and manage financial models to evaluate business cases for new commercial initiatives, including test launches, strategic partnerships, and RFPs.
  • Conduct scenario analysis and sensitivity testing to support investment decisions.
  • Contribute to board-level and investor presentations with data-driven insights and financial storytelling.
  • Operational Finance Support
  • Support operational cost management initiatives, including tracking and validating cost savings.
  • Assist with cost accounting processes, including BOMS (Bill of Materials) research and updates.
  • Guide department leaders through the Capital Approval Request (CAR) process, including ROI analysis and investment documentation for CEO and Board approval.
  • Assist with month-end close activities, including variance analysis and financial reporting.
  • Team Leadership & Process Improvement:
  • Lead and mentor financial analyst(s).
  • Drive continuous improvement in financial systems, tools, and reporting capabilities.
  • Adhere to the Code of Conduct as outlined in the Baylor Genetics Compliance Program.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
