SUMMARY:
The VP/SVP of Finance/Controller will lead the company’s accounting operations, financial reporting, compliance, and internal controls. This executive will play a critical role in supporting the CFO in driving financial excellence, scalability, and operational discipline as the company advances its mission in precision medicine and prepares for future capital events.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; CPA preferred. MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- Experience:
- 12+ years of progressive finance and accounting leadership experience, ideally within high-growth biotech, diagnostics, or life sciences sectors.
- Proven track record in leading accounting operations in a private or public company environment.
- Experience with ERP systems and process automation to support scale and efficiency.
- Strong knowledge of SEC reporting, GAAP compliance, and internal control frameworks.
- High integrity leader with a rigorous, hands-on approach to financial operations.
- Strong communicator capable of translating complex financial concepts for executive and cross-functional audiences.
- Proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, innovation-driven environment with evolving priorities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Financial Leadership & Strategy
- Partner closely with the CFO to align accounting operations with the company’s financial strategy and growth objectives.
- Provide guidance on accounting implications of business initiatives, including partnerships, commercial expansion, and R&D investments.
Controllership & Compliance
- Oversee all aspects of financial close, consolidation, and external reporting, ensuring compliance with U.S. GAAP.
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls, accounting policies, and audit readiness in line with company standards.
- Lead the annual financial audit process and manage external auditor relationships.
Financial Reporting & Systems
- Develop accurate and timely financial reporting for internal and external stakeholders, including the executive team and board.
- Drive optimization of financial systems and implement scalable processes to support company growth and operational complexity.
Team Development & Cross-Functional Partnership
- Lead and grow a high-performing accounting and finance team with a focus on accuracy, agility, and collaboration.
- Collaborate with Legal, HR, and Operations to support enterprise-wide initiatives and strategic planning.
- Adheres to Code of Conduct as outlined in the Baylor Genetics Compliance Program
