Hilco Global is based in Northbrook, Illinois and has more than 900 professionals operating on five continents.Our growing team is seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Fund Controller to oversee the financial operations and reporting for the organization’s investment portfolio.

This hybrid role, based in our Northbrook, IL Global Headquarters, is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, monitoring investment performance, managing compliance with relevant regulations, and providing strategic insights to senior management. This role is ideal for someone who understands fund structures, can interpret complex investment data, and excels at turning financial reporting into actionable insight for internal and external stakeholders.

Key Responsibilities


Investment Fund Management


  • Responsible for the financial accounting and reporting of all fund investment activities, including coordination of annual audits with independent accountants
  • Maintain and oversee the general ledger for investment funds, ensuring accuracy and integrity of fund-level accounting
  • Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual investment financial statements and performance reports, ensuring compliance with internal policies and regulatory requirements
  • Prepare journal entries, including complex waterfalls and IRR/return calculations across fund investments
  • Monitor investment cash flows, capital calls, and distributions
  • Monitor fund expense ratios and ensure they are in line with the projected budgets
  • Support budgeting and forecasting processes related to investment income and asset allocation

Compliance and Internal Reporting


  • Serve as a liaison between investment operations and accounting for internal clients, including business verticals and investment portfolios
  • Support deal-level analysis, going beyond accounting principals to interpret investment performance and underlying metrics
  • Partner with FP&A to support budgeting and forecasting across deals and investment vehicles
  • Develop enhanced management reporting packs that combine accounting data with analytical insights for leadership and stakeholders
  • Lead initiatives to enhance investment reporting systems and tools
  • Support the development of internal control framework and the integration of the investment and accounting systems
  • Ensure compliance with relevant accounting standards (GAAP) and other regulatory requirements

External Investor & Fund Reporting


  • Own monthly reporting process for external stakeholders including deal partners, and investors
  • Develop and maintain standardized templates for recurring investor and fund reports (approximately 10–15 reports per month)
  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of key financial data such as capital account balances, investment valuations, and return metrics
  • Clearly explain data driven performance results and variances to stakeholders
  • Report and analyze month-over-month changes in fund and investment performance
  • Act as a reporting and maintenance hub between the FP&A and accounting teams, ensuring alignment on the structure and treatment of fund products and instruments

Qualifications


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field (advanced degree is a plus), CPA preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in investment accounting, financial reporting, or a similar role
  • Experience with financial reporting, audits, and compliance within private credit or similar alternative investments
  • Strong knowledge of investment products, financial markets, and accounting principles
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills
  • Expert in Microsoft Excel and other financial modeling tools
  • High attention to detail and ability to meet tight deadlines
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills

In compliance with the Illinois Pay Transparency Law, the base salary range for this role in Illinois is between $150,000.00 and $180,000.00. This range does not include discretionary bonus or other forms of compensation or benefits offered in connection with this job. Several factors are considered when determining a candidate’s compensation. Please note that the salary range listed for this position is based on the level of experience outlined in the job description.
