Our vision is to become a full-service end-of-life and memorialization resource.We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Accounting Manager to oversee key accounting functions, manage a small team, and support the preparation of financial statements. This role requires expertise in US GAAP, complex accounting processes, and the ability to manage evolving business needs in an entrepreneurial environment.
The ideal candidate is a CPA with strong technical skills and a proven track record in both public and private accounting environments.
Candidates must be able to work from Legacy.com’s Chicago offices from Tuesday – Thursday.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage US subsidiary accounting, including US GAAP adjustments.
- Oversee the period-end close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
- Prepare and analyze monthly reporting, GL account fluctuations, identify and analyze/correct unusual activity, and provide detailed explanations.
- Prepare supporting schedules and account analysis within close deadlines.
- Lead accounting process to accrue Accounts Payable and accruals.
- Supervise and mentor a team of one, fostering professional development.
- Assist in preparing financial statements and related disclosures, including consolidations, cash flow statements, and stock compensation footnotes.
- Review and approve account reconciliations, calculations and journal entries
- Calculate complex accounting calculations and post journal entries for areas including internally developed software capitalization and allowance for doubtful accounts.
- Support ad hoc projects involving transactions, system implementations, integration of new companies and operational changes driven by business initiatives.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in accounting.
- 3+ years in accounting people manager role.
- Background in public accounting (Big Four or large national audit firm experience preferred)
- Industry experience with complex accounting processes and reporting.
- CPA certification required.
- High-volume journal entry recording and multi-entity GL experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of SOX compliance and public company-level workpaper documentation.
- Skilled in the preparation and consolidation of financial statements and reports across multiple entities
- Proficiency in vendor accrual accounting and AP processes.
- Demonstrated ability to manage and establish new processes.
- Experience with complex accounting areas and evolving business needs.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel and familiarity with data analytics tools a plus (e.g., Power BI, Alteryx).
- Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Highly organized with meticulous attention to detail.
- Familiarity with GL systems and other technical accounting systems.

Final compensation is determined based on a variety of factors such as experience, education, certifications and geographic location.Salary Description$110k-$140k + Bonus
