DSFederal Inc, is seeking an highly experienced Communications Lead to oversee and manage strategic communications, outreach, and workforce engagement initiatives to support enterprise cybersecurity initiatives within a complex federal environment. This role will lead a multidisciplinary team delivering comprehensive communication services supporting internal and external cybersecurity engagement goals. The Communications Lead will be responsible for driving consistent, transparent, and impactful communication strategies, ensuring alignment with programmatic priorities, federal mandates, and executive leadership goals.
This individual will lead content creation, branding, event coordination, stakeholder engagement, and digital platform integration while supporting key reporting and briefing needs across cybersecurity programs. This leadership-facing role requires strong expertise in federal communications, branding, stakeholder outreach, and performance reporting in cybersecurity.
This is a Contingent Position.
Job Duties / Responsibilities
- Provide strategic leadership and oversight of all cybersecurity communications activities, ensuring effective project management, seamless coordination across the Communications Branch, and the successful execution of both internal and external engagement initiatives.
- Develop and lead the execution of internal and external communication strategies to enhance awareness of cybersecurity programs, initiatives, and events.
- Oversee a support team responsible for branding, social media, visual content, publications, newsletters, briefings, and analytics reporting.
- Serve as the primary liaison to federal communications leadership, working closely with cybersecurity executives to align communications efforts with strategic goals.
- Lead the operation and management of digital communication tools to streamline internal and external messaging, including email campaigns, social media, newsletters, and outreach initiatives.
- Assess and propose communications tools and strategies (e.g., FedRAMP-approved platforms, publishing tools, mixed media).
- Guide the creation and refinement of cybersecurity branding assets and materials (e.g., templates, infographics) and manage their distribution and archival.
- Lead the development of clear, tailored content such as talking points, FAQs, remarks, speeches, and executive narratives to support cybersecurity engagements.
- Support the coordination of strategic events, including cybersecurity roundtables, panel discussions, workforce town halls, and award ceremonies.
- Lead feedback and analytics efforts, including surveys, KPI reporting, and post-engagement assessments to inform strategy refinement.
- Oversee all policy communication coordination, ensuring the collection and delivery of quarterly and annual report data to internal and external partners.
- Lead the preparation and delivery of briefings, dashboards, and visual reports for program stakeholders, including executive leadership and federal oversight bodies.
Requirements
Experience Required
- 10+ years of experience in communications, marketing, or public affairs roles, with a focus on large federal or enterprise environments.
- 5+ years of experience leading communications initiatives in a cybersecurity or IT security context.
- Demonstrated expertise in stakeholder engagement, branding, digital communications strategy, and outreach execution.
- Experience managing content development across platforms (print, web, video, social) with knowledge of AP Style and government public affairs standards.
- Experience supporting leadership with internal and public-facing engagements, conferences, and executive presentations.
- Familiarity with federal cybersecurity policy and reporting frameworks such as FISMA, NIST, OMB guidance, and government performance reporting.
- Experience with tools such as Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, PowerPoint, Adobe Creative Suite, Canva, Trello/Asana, and email marketing systems.
- Strong writing, editing, presentation, and collaboration skills.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Cybersecurity, Public Policy, or a related field.
- Master’s degree preferred.
Certifications (Preferred)
- Certified Government Communicator or equivalent (e.g., IABC, NAGC)
- Project Management Professional (PMP)
- ITIL Foundation or equivalent
