The Role
We are looking for a highly skilled and detail-oriented Payroll Accountant to lead and support our payroll operations in Mexico and also support the United States payroll team. This role is critical to ensuring accurate, timely, and compliant payroll processing in accordance with Mexican labor laws, IMSS, INFONAVIT, and SAT requirements. The ideal candidate will bring deep expertise in payroll accounting, tax reporting, and process improvement within a multinational or fast-paced environment. Please submit your resume/CV in English.
Responsibilities
- Manage end-to-end semi-monthly payroll processing for employees, ensuring compliance with local regulations.
- Liaise with a third party payroll processor.
- Reconcile payroll accounts and prepare journal entries for monthly and year-end close.
- Calculate and process payroll-related taxes and accounting accruals, employee benefits, and government contributions (IMSS, INFONAVIT, ISR, etc.).
- Ensure timely submission of statutory reports and filings to SAT, IMSS, INFONAVIT, and other local authorities.
- Partner with HR and finance to ensure accuracy of payroll inputs, benefits, bonuses, and deductions.
- Support audits and inspections from local authorities (SAT, STPS, etc.) and external auditors.
- Lead continuous improvements to payroll processes and system functionality.
- Maintain detailed payroll records and ensure compliance with data protection and labor confidentiality requirements.
Desired Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field.
- 5+ years of payroll experience in Mexico, preferably in a senior or lead role.
- Strong knowledge of Mexican labor law, tax regulations, and social security requirements.
- Experience with payroll software, ERP systems (Netsuite), and HCM (Workday).
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel, Google Workplace, and accounting systems.
- Bilingual (Spanish/English) required.
- Excellent attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and ability to work independently.
- Experience in multinational or fast-paced environments is a strong plus.
