Together, we have the power to shift perspectives—and maybe even change the world.About This RoleAs a Lead Backend Engineer, you’ll build and scale the backend systems that keep our nectar dating app fast, secure, and always ready to match people at just the right moment. You'll lead our tech and product teams to develop APIs, design architecture that supports millions of users, and make sure the nectar app runs smoothly.What You’ll Do:
- Lead a team of developers to design, build, and maintain scalable backend applications and APIs using Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL/Hasura, Postgres
- Architect and optimize systems for high scalability and performance as the business rapidly expands
- Implement third-party integrations and external APIs to enhance the platform’s capabilities
- Leverage AI-powered coding tools (e.g., GitHub Copilot, Cursor) to improve development speed, code quality, and system reliability
- Develop and maintain internal tools that support operations, internal workflows, and machine learning initiatives
- Collaborate cross-functionally with product, growth, and frontend teams to ship high-impact features quickly
- Ensure backend systems are secure, well-documented, and thoroughly tested
Who You Are:
- 7+ years of experience as a professional backend engineer on large scale projects with high traffic
- Expert in Node.js, TypeScript, GraphQL, and Postgres/SQL
- Experience in AWS and/or other cloud providers
- Passion for using the latest AI coding tools and AI-driven best practices to enhance development workflows
- Experience leading a team of developers
- Be an accountable team member who will take ownerships
- Ability to move fast and iterate quickly in a startup environment while maintaining high code quality
- Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to communicate technical trade-offs effectively
- Nice to have: experience using dating apps, working with remote engineers, worked on mobile applications
