Commercial Underwriter


Shore United Bank is seeking a full-time
Commercial Underwriter II to join our team. The Commercial Underwriter II is responsible for underwriting commercial loans of modest complexity and performing administrative duties as part of the credit analysis function; achieving goals as established in the assigned department's annual operating plan; coordinating work within the department, as well as with other departments; complying with operating policies and procedures established for the credit analysis function; communicating with appropriate personnel; responding to inquiries or requests for information; maintaining appropriate records and providing assigned reports.

Essential Functions Include:


  • Receives data on prospective and active borrowing accounts, i.e., financial statements, agency reports, and interview and investigation sheets.
  • Analyzes data and evaluates the short- and long-run prospects of the individual or company.
  • May make recommendations to appropriate personnel on the granting or denying of loans; prepares sufficient information to document recommendations.
  • May suggest a loan grade after conducting a thorough credit analysis and documentation review.
  • Provides thorough documentation of all financial analysis work, including ratios and other related information.
  • Ensures that all credit analysis activities are conducted in accordance with prescribed lending policy.
  • Is able to work with minimal supervision. While work is typically reviewed, major revisions should be unnecessary.
  • Identifies and responds to opportunities to communicate affiliates products and services to promote the image of the affiliate and promote Shore Bancshares’ community of companies’ products and services to potential customers and referring those customers to the proper personnel.
  • Achieves goals assigned to the Commercial Underwriter as part of the assigned department's annual operating plan.
  • Abides by the current laws and organizational policies and procedures designed and implemented to promote an environment which is free of harassment and other forms of illegal discriminatory behavior in the workplace.
  • Cooperates with, participates in, and supports the adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness and the Bank's compliance with all regulatory requirements, e.g. Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), Bank Secrecy Act (BSA), Equal Credit Opportunity Act, etc.
  • Participates in required training sessions, including training for compliance with BSA/AML policies and procedures.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:


  • Full-time.
  • Non-exempt.
  • Days of Work: Monday-Friday.

Required Education and Experience:


  • High school diploma/GED equivalent.
  • A B.S. or B.A. degree in a related field of study preferred, or a minimum of two-years related experience; specialized financial analysis training.
  • A minimum of one-year’s related experience
  • Proficient ability to analyze and interpret financial statements and draw conclusions based on common-sized and trend analyses
  • Ability to spread and analyze business and personal tax returns
  • Ability to identify source of repayment and perform collateral analysis
  • Intermediate knowledge of current lending and loan review regulations and banking regulations, procedures, and operations

Compensation:


  • The pay range for this position is $33.75 - $43.00 hourly.
  • Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted hiring range based on factors such as relevant experience, time in role, base salary of internal peers, prior performance, business sector, licensure requirements and/or skill level, and will be finalized at the time of offer.
