This position will support the Venerable Product Management team by assisting with cross-functional projects related to the ongoing administration and management of our in-force block of annuities and life insurance. The position contributes to research, proposes ideas, presents findings, and supports solutions to complex problems for various audiences, playing a key role in managing and reducing administrative risk. The role requires the development of an understanding of business operations and assistance leveraging analysis with guidance and oversight from more senior team members. This position participates in the Actuarial Student Program, including rotation across various functional areas.Primary Responsibilities:
- Apply actuarial techniques and business knowledge as a member of the Product Management team on cross-functional projects supporting regulatory updates, strategic initiatives and product updates. Responsibilities include:
- Drafting and maintaining project/product specification documents
- Providing input on business requirements
- Developing, reviewing and signing off on test plans
- Supporting system administration of annuities: variable annuities (VA), fixed annuities (FA), fixed indexed annuities (FIA), single premium immediate annuities (SPIA) and variable life business.
- Researching, analyzing and providing guidance on complex administrative system calculations to ensure they are consistent with contractual language
- Partnering with various business units (e.g. Finance, Operations, IT) to support regulatory, agent and customer-facing solutions.
- Contributing to projects with creative solutions, roadblock resolutions, and ensuring compliance of requirements through testing and validation processes.
- Supporting and contributing to continuous improvement of processes and projects.
- Applying advanced computer skills to analyze data, develop models, and support annuity product management; leveraging Excel, VBA, SQL.
- Researching, proposing and executing solutions to complex, unstructured, or non-routine tasks and problems
- Reviewing reinsurance agreements and providing guidance on product related matters.
- Effectively present and communicate results on various tasks internally to senior team members or a broader team, as well as externally to auditors or other vendors
- Other responsibilities on an as needed basis
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Finance or related business discipline
- Completion of 4-6 actuarial exams; near ASA
- 3-4+ years financial, insurance industry, or actuarial experience – Product Development and/or Annuities experience plus
- Excellent computer skills: Excel spreadsheets, databases, programming languages (e.g. VBA, SQL)
- Solid understanding of insurance products, regulations, or insurance company structure from experience in roles such as pricing, modeling, valuation, risk management, in-force management, experience studies, hedging
- Detail oriented with strong analytical skills or advanced knowledge of actuarial concepts; ability to use this knowledge to lead/develop solutions to ad-hoc requests or issues
- Leverages strong oral and written communication skills to readily and effectively collaborate with peers and managers, shares information and asks questions
- Ability to stay organized and manage competing priorities and deadlines
- Strong desire to learn and grow
