Job Summary:
We are seeking a dependable and skilled Custodian/Maintenance Assistant to join our school facilities team. This individual will be responsible for maintaining a clean, safe, and functional environment for students, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate will have experience in general maintenance tasks, including plumbing, painting, floor care, and routine repairs, and will take pride in keeping the school in excellent condition.
Key Responsibilities:
- Perform daily cleaning duties such as sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, and trash removal.
- Assist with basic plumbing tasks, such as unclogging drains, fixing leaks, and replacing fixtures.
- Handle painting projects including preparing surfaces, patching walls, and applying paint as needed.
- Perform floor maintenance including stripping, waxing, buffing, and carpet cleaning.
- Conduct routine inspections and minor repairs to school facilities and equipment.
- Assist with seasonal tasks such as snow removal, salting walkways, and basic landscaping.
- Ensure maintenance supplies are stocked and inform supervisor when reordering is needed.
- Set up and break down rooms for school events or activities.
- Report any safety hazards, needed repairs, or major maintenance issues to supervisor promptly.
- Collaborate with other custodial and maintenance staff as needed to support school operations.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- At least 1–2 years of custodial or general maintenance experience (school setting a plus).
- Basic knowledge of plumbing, painting, and floor care techniques.
- Ability to operate cleaning equipment and power tools safely.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions.
- Reliable, self-motivated, and capable of working independently.
- Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs., bend, stoop, and stand for long periods.
- Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, or emergencies if required.
