Role Overview
- We’re looking for a talented and experienced Engineer to join a high-performing team focused on advancing search infrastructure and capabilities. This is a unique opportunity to work at the intersection of large-scale systems, modern search technologies, and applied machine learning.
As a Senior Engineer at Beyond, you’ll:
- Develop and enhance high-performance backend systems for search, including document indexing, query processing, ranking, and retrieval.
- Lead initiatives to modernize traditional keyword-based search by incorporating semantic search, vector-based retrieval, and LLM-integrated components.
- Build scalable data pipelines (batch and streaming) to process and enrich catalog data and maintain an up-to-date search index.
- Ensure optimal performance, reliability, and observability of search APIs and services.
- Drive continuous improvement through A/B testing and evaluation of search quality using offline and live metrics.
- Take part in architectural decisions, mentor team members, and uphold strong engineering practices.
- Stay up to date with advancements in search, ML, and recommendation systems, applying them to real-world production systems.
Things that will make you stand out:
- Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience designing and deploying large-scale distributed backend systems.
- Proficient with big data technologies such as Apache Beam, Google Pub/Sub, and Redis.
- Strong coding skills in Python and JavaScript/Node.js. Experience with Scala or Golang is a bonus.
- Experience working with ElasticSearch or similar search platforms.
- Comfortable with both SQL and NoSQL databases.
- Proficient in API development using REST and GraphQL.
- Familiar with modern cloud infrastructure (GCP or AWS), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), CI/CD practices, and observability tooling.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills; thrives in a fast-paced, cross-functional team environment.
Nice to Have
- Background in semantic search, vector similarity, NLP, or recommendation systems.
- Experience with LLMs, fine-tuning, and ML model deployment.
- Familiarity with the design and operation of machine learning systems and experimentation workflows.
