Job Summary:


The Custodial Supervisor is responsible for overseeing custodial operations at assigned school facilities within the School District of Philadelphia. This role ensures that buildings are clean, safe, and well-maintained, and that custodial staff work effectively and in compliance with union rules, district policies, and safety regulations.

Key Responsibilities:


  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of custodial staff, including scheduling, task assignments, and on-site direction.
  • Ensure compliance with custodial service standards, health and safety regulations, and School District policies.
  • Monitor and inspect school facilities for cleanliness, safety, and functionality; address and resolve deficiencies.
  • Provide training, coaching, and performance feedback to custodial personnel.
  • Maintain accurate records of employee attendance, work logs, inspections, and inventory.
  • Collaborate with union representatives and ensure adherence to collective bargaining agreements.
  • Respond to emergencies such as spills, weather-related incidents, or facility issues requiring immediate custodial support.
  • Requisition supplies and equipment as needed and ensure proper use and maintenance of custodial tools.
  • Act as a liaison between the custodial team, school administrators, facilities management, and external vendors.
  • Participate in disciplinary actions and grievance processes in accordance with HR and union guidelines.

Qualifications:


  • High school diploma or GED required; additional coursework in facility management or a related field is a plus.
  • Minimum 3 years of custodial experience, including at least 1 year in a supervisory or lead role.
  • Prior experience in a unionized environment strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of cleaning procedures, floor care, sanitation standards, and OSHA safety regulations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, evenings, or weekends as needed.
  • Proficient in basic computer applications (email, scheduling software, report generation).
  • Must be able to pass background checks and clearances required by the School District.

Work Environment:


This role involves walking, standing, bending, lifting up to 50 lbs, and working in varied indoor and outdoor conditions. The Supervisor may be assigned to multiple sites and should be capable of managing competing priorities in a fast-paced, unionized setting. 18.50 To 19 (USD) Hourly
