Job Description


The Thermography Program Manager is responsible for leading and managing the infrared (IR) thermography program across our data center portfolio. This role ensures the effective implementation of predictive maintenance strategies, compliance with industry standards, and continuous improvement of thermographic inspection processes. The ideal candidate is an experienced thermographer, preferably Level III certified, with a deep understanding of ASNT SNT-TC-1A guidelines, data center critical systems, and IR analysis for electrical and mechanical equipment. This position is critical in optimizing asset reliability, identifying early-stage failures, and supporting overall operational excellence.

A proactive, detail-oriented self-starter with the ability to train others, refine standards, and drive innovation in thermographic applications will thrive in this role. 

RESPONSIBILITIES 


  • Program Leadership & Management 
  • Oversee and manage the company's infrared thermography program, ensuring alignment with ASNT SNT-TC-1A requirements. 
  • Develop and implement standardized IR inspection procedures, reporting structures, and corrective action plans. 
  • Establish best practices for predictive maintenance using thermography to enhance operational reliability. 
  • Evaluate and integrate new IR technologies, tools, and methodologies to improve inspection accuracy and efficiency. 
  • Lead quality assurance and compliance efforts, ensuring thermographic procedures meet regulatory and safety standards. 
  • Technical Expertise & Inspections 
  • Conduct and oversee IR inspections of electrical, mechanical, and structural systems in mission-critical data center environments. 
  • Identify thermal anomalies, electrical faults, and mechanical issues, providing actionable insights for maintenance teams. 
  • Maintain and calibrate IR cameras and related diagnostic equipment, ensuring accuracy and reliability. 
  • Analyze thermographic data, compile detailed reports, and communicate findings to technical and executive stakeholders. 
  • Lead failure analysis and root cause investigations related to thermal performance issues. 
  • Training & Development 
  • Develop and conduct training programs for internal personnel to improve thermography proficiency. 
  • Mentor and certify team members at Level I and Level II, ensuring they adhere to ASNT SNT-TC-1A requirements. 
  • Provide ongoing education and guidance on data interpretation, best practices, and safety protocols. 
  • Compliance & Process Improvement 
  • Ensure all thermographic inspections comply with ASNT SNT-TC-1A, NFPA 70B, and other applicable industry standards. 
  • Establish documentation and reporting protocols to track inspection results, historical trends, and corrective actions. 
  • Work closely with facility managers, operations teams, and leadership to integrate thermography into broader asset management strategies. 
  • Continuously seek efficiency improvements in IR data collection, analysis, and workflow automation. 

Qualifications


EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 


  • Associate’s degree or equivalent experience required; advanced degrees preferred. 

  • Level III Infrared Thermography Certification (preferred) or Level II, with the ability to obtain Level III.  Minimum Level II certification required at the time of hire. 
  • 3+ years of experience in infrared thermography, with a focus on electrical and mechanical systems. 

  • Strong knowledge of ASNT SNT-TC-1A, NFPA 70B, and predictive maintenance strategies. 

  • Experience in mission-critical facilities, data centers, or industrial environments is highly desirable. 

  • Experience in project management. 

  • Ability to travel up to 33%, with potential for on-site emergency response. 

  • Domestic travel from coast to coast. 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND COMPETENCIES 


  • Technical Expertise & Thermography-Specific Skills 

  • Expertise in thermographic diagnostics for electrical and mechanical infrastructure. 

  • Proficiency in IR camera operation, analysis software, and reporting tools. 

  • Strong analytical skills, with experience in thermal imaging software and data interpretation. 

  • Strong problem-solving skills, with the ability to diagnose thermal anomalies and recommend corrective actions. 

  • Technical expertise in electrical and mechanical systems related to critical facility management. 

  • Ability to read and interpret complex technical drawings, system diagrams, and documentation. 

  • Leadership & Training 

  • Proven ability to train, mentor, and develop thermography personnel. 

  • Proficiency in training and mentoring teams, ensuring effective knowledge transfer. 

  • Communication & Collaboration 

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills for interacting with employees, executives, customers, and external vendors. 

  • Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying technical findings to non-technical audiences. 

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating with cross-functional teams to support broader maintenance and reliability initiatives. 

  • Project & Program Management 

  • Self-motivated and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage multiple projects and drive program success. 

  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects based on business and customer demands. 

  • Strong adaptability to learn new tools, applications, and industry trends. 

  • Ability to push systems to their limits, identify weaknesses, and propose solutions.
