The Director, Ceded Reinsurance plays a critical role in executing the company’s reinsurance strategy by supporting the placement, negotiation, and administration of reinsurance programs. Reporting directly to the SVP of Reinsurance, this individual serves as a key liaison between internal stakeholders (including underwriting, actuarial, finance, and claims) and external partners (brokers and reinsurers). The role is responsible for ensuring that reinsurance structures are aligned with the company’s risk appetite, capital objectives, and regulatory requirements, while also optimizing cost efficiency and supporting profitable growth. This position requires both analytical and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to manage multiple placements across lines of business in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Risk Management, Finance, Actuarial Science, or related field.
- ARM, CPCU, or ARe designation a plus.
- 4–8 years of experience in reinsurance buying, broking, or reinsurance underwriting.
- Strong understanding of reinsurance structures (e.g., quota share, XOL, stop loss), ceded accounting, and claims implications.
- Solid analytical skills and proficiency with exposure analysis, reinsurance modeling inputs, and Excel.
- Experience working with brokers and reinsurers across multiple markets (e.g., London, Bermuda, domestic).
- Familiarity with regulatory and rating agency perspectives on reinsurance.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and project management skills.
Primary Job Functions:
- Support the execution of reinsurance placements.
- Analyze portfolio exposures and loss trends to inform reinsurance structure and limit decisions.
- Assist in the development of reinsurance strategies that align with underwriting goals, capital efficiency targets, and rating agency requirements.
- Prepare and maintain submission materials, contract summaries, and deal documentation.
- Coordinate with internal stakeholders (actuarial, underwriting, finance) and external partners (brokers, reinsurers) throughout the placement process.
