For more information about Collegis Education, please visit www.CollegisEducation.com.Position Summary:As a Banner Database Administrator at Collegis, you will be a key contributor in the planning, analysis, coordination, support, and maintenance of multiple Ellucian Banner® environments and associated components. The supported ecosystem includes technologies such as Oracle, Banner 9, Automic, BDMS, ESM, Ethos, eTranscripts, Degree Works, ODS, Touchnet, and Workflow.
The Banner DBA will be responsible for installing, configuring, and maintaining Oracle-based technologies and any required technologies in support of Banner and its components. You will be critical in the coordination of physical and logical changes to enterprise databases and applications. The Banner DBA may also serve as a main point of contact between the database group and functional users; serve as the main point of contact for integrations with outside entities and technical support resources; support the Director - IT Enterprise Systems in the execution of all principal functions of the IT Enterprise Systems group. Candidates should be highly proactive and driven to continuously improve the consistency and quality of the services provided to customers.
Primary Responsibilities, Essential Functions and Requirements:
- Provide support for the Ellucian products, Oracle databases, and related tools for multiple clients.
- Develop and implement processes for the backup, recovery, and cloning of database and application environments.
- Review and implement database and application installations, configuration, and maintenance according to established standard methodologies.
- Adhere to and enforce the appropriate information security policies based on the sensitivity of company data and report any security-related issues.
- Reduce the risk of theft, fraud, or misuse of information assets by acting as a data steward for the applications you administer.
- Provide expertise to project coordinators to assist in the planning of requests, implementation steps, corrective actions, upgrade recommendations and optimization steps for Oracle and Ellucian technologies and products.
- Document project status updates regularly for work completed as well as work that is underway, including risks, challenges, and achievements.
- Finish tasks assigned by the team leader or manager diligently, on schedule, and to the highest standard.
- Provide direction for partners enabling them to stay on task and meet deadlines.
- Establish and advocate for standards and consistency across partners.
- Foster teamwork by empowering collaboration and communication within the team.
Experience and Qualifications:
- Five or more years of experience supporting Ellucian and Oracle database environments.
- Five or more years of experience conducting database tuning, maintaining security, conducting backups, and optimizing Oracle Banner® technical environments.
- Solid understanding of the technical architecture of the Ellucian Banner® software suite, including installing and configuring Banner 9 and all related products and tools.
- Demonstrated experience supporting the integration and maintenance of third-party applications that integrate with the Banner® ERP. Examples include Automic, Cashnet, Nelnet, Touchnet, Evisions, Kronos, and learning management systems such as Blackboard Learn, Canvas, and Moodle.
- Solid understanding of related tools such as RDBMS 19c, SQL & PL/SQL, Recovery Manager (RMAN), Enterprise Manager (OEM), Oracle Real Application Cluster (RAC), Oracle Grid Infrastructure, and experience with shell scripting.
- Experience or knowledge of administering Apache, Tomcat, and RabbitMQ.
- Experience with tools such as GIT, Ellucian Solution Manager (ESM), Jenkins Agent and Ellucian Ethos Identity and Integration services.
- Ability to troubleshoot database and application issues, assess root cause, and offer effective and permanent solutions quickly and accurately.
- Demonstrated understanding of identity management and application single sign-on, especially for Banner.
- Ability to collaborate with end-users and teammates, gain their confidence, understand their technical and operational needs, and translate them into viable technical solutions.
- Ability to balance multiple complex and urgent projects simultaneously.
Requirements
Education, Certifications and Licensures:
- Bachelor of Science, Computer Science, MIS degree, or equivalent experience.
Remote/Hybrid Policy:
This role offers the flexibility of a fully remote environment. However, in alignment with our commitment to collaboration and team engagement, candidates within a 60-mile radius of our Chicago, IL headquarters will be expected to follow a hybrid schedule, working onsite 1-2 days per week to support in-person connection and cross-functional partnership.
