Buyer/Planner at Scythe


Scythe is seeking a detail-oriented Buyer/Planner to support the next chapter in Scythe’s journey: ramping from dozens of units to tens of thousands. We've developed an industry-changing machine and have customers knocking down our door for units, so we're looking to scale our production quickly and get thousands of reliable autonomous machines out into the world where they can change how we take care of all our outdoor space.You will be a key member of our supply chain organization and be responsible for purchasing goods and/or services to meet our demanding production schedule. No task will be too large or too small! You will be expected to provide feedback for design, manufacturing, and/or supply chain improvements to help Scythe increase quality, rate, and decrease cost. This role is responsible for purchasing production and prototype materials, managing supplier relationships, assisting with supply chain planning, and coordinating logistics. The ideal candidate brings a solid background in international sourcing, ERP-driven planning, and a willingness to jump into general support tasks when needed. Familiarity with cables, PCBAs, and fabricated metal parts is highly preferred.

What you’ll do at Scythe  


  • Responsible for purchasing goods and services supporting our production system and other company functions as needed
  • Manage, monitor and maintain vendor delivery schedules and need dates in ERP to meet our production schedule
  • Provide feedback to design and manufacturing teams on material lead times and/or requirements to meet our production demand
  • Report clear-to-build statuses and other key supply chain metrics for given area of responsibility 
  • Work with accounts payable and vendors to reconcile invoices as needed
  • Ensure all relevant paperwork for logistics, freight, and tracking is accurate and complete for deliveries to comply with international and/or domestic shipping
  • Provide recommendations to leadership to increase efficiency in supply chain processes, better manage cost of inventory, and improve delivery performance to the production line

What you know well


  • Experience scheduling, planning, and/or purchasing in a manufacturing environment
  • Experience with international trade, logistics, and customs documentation
  • Strong computer skills, ideally including experience with a suite of Google and/or Microsoft tools (Google Sheets+Google Docs or MS Excel/MS Word, etc)
  • Experience working within Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) and/or other supply chain management tools including Material Requirements Planning (MRP) and Manufacturing Execution System (MES)
  • Familiarity with cable harnesses, PCB assemblies, sheet metal, and machined components.
  • Proficiency with Excel and data analysis tools

What you’ve maybe done


  • Background in robotics, electronics, or manufacturing.
  • Knowledge of Lean manufacturing and Just-In-Time (JIT) principles.
  • Experience working in a fast-paced startup or scale-up environment.
  • Served as buyer for PCBA components with knowledge of different types of components on a typical board
  • Served as buyer for mechanical hardware with a wide range of knowledge for metal fabrication, off the shelf components, and fastening hardware
  • Mechanical and electrical technical aptitude; specifically, the ability to read and understand technical drawings and apply such knowledge in day-to-day business
  • Developed supply chain dashboards using SQL or similar querying language

Scythe is a total compensation company, which provides employees a comprehensive salary, equity, and benefit package. However, only the minimum salary amounts are listed here. Scythe carefully considers a wide range of compensation factors, including education, years of experience, competencies and other relevant business considerations. These considerations can cause your compensation to vary along with your compensation mode preferences. The Buyer position has an expected minimum annual cash salary of $75,000 . The actual pay may be higher depending on your skills, qualifications, and experience. Equity and benefits packages are NOT included in this estimate. Please note that this information is provided for those hired in Colorado only, and this role is open to candidates outside of Colorado as well.Scythe is an Equal Opportunity employer committed to diversity in the workplace.
