At Nautilus, we have a big and important mission: improve the health of millions by unleashing the potential of the proteome to accelerate drug development and enable a new world of precision and personalized medicine. We are developing a single-molecule protein analysis platform of unprecedented sensitivity, scale, and ease of use that we believe will democratize access to the proteome – one of the most dynamic and valuable sources of biological insight. To accomplish this, we are pursuing hard scientific problems with an entrepreneurial mindset and creating a world-class team of builders, innovators, and dreamers across a wide range of disciplines.
We are seeking a Scientist I with a passion for discovery and innovation to join our Assay Development Team. This role sits at the intersection of science, engineering and operations, supporting the development of cutting-edge single-molecule proteomics technologies. We're looking for a curious, team-oriented individual who is eager to grow, collaborate across disciplines, and contribute to impactful scientific work. In this role, the successful candidate will design and execute complex experiments, analyze multi-dimensional data, and help drive the development of our platform through thoughtful, hands-on science.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop simple and robust assays/reagents with a holistic understanding of the Nautilus proteomics platform and customer needs.
- Plan and execute complex, information-rich experiments to guide assay development and platform innovation
- Optimize and perform protein extraction and nano-particle conjugation for single-molecule analysis using a variety of biological samples from collaborators and customers.
- Develop and refine strategies for protein and nucleic acid labeling, surface passivation, and characterization to support advances in single-molecule imaging.
- Maintain precise and timely documentation of experimental results; communicate findings clearly in both written and oral formats to colleagues and stakeholders
Qualifications
- PhD in Biochemistry, Biophysics, Chemical Biology, or a related discipline with 1+ year of industry experience, or BS/MS with 7+ years of relevant industry experience.
- Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in assay development, bioconjugation, biosensors, and/or single-molecule spectroscopy.
- Experience working with complex or prototype instrumentation is a strong plus.
- Proven ability to contribute to interdisciplinary, cross-functional research and deliver results in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong organizational skills in documentation, communication, and collaboration.
Nautilus Team Culture
- We are determined to do whatever it takes to get our platform into the hands of researchers who will use it to upend the status quo in basic research and healthcare.
- We work on cross functional teams, wear many hats, take risks to work through uncertainty, enjoy working collaboratively on challenging problems, and celebrate one another’s victories.
- We go above and beyond, but also strive to provide a supportive atmosphere of colleagues who are willing to lend a helping hand and make working at Nautilus not only fulfilling in its end goals, but enjoyable on a day-to-day basis.
