Mid-level Software Developer (4342)

SMX is seeking a mid-level Software Developer to support a highly impactful software development and automation environment for a Federal customer. This role will help implement secure, automated CI/CD pipelines and assist in maintaining software systems supporting national personnel vetting capabilities. You’ll collaborate closely with engineers, developers, and cybersecurity specialists in a dynamic DevSecOps environment where innovation meets mission impact.

Essential Duties:


  • Support the development and enhancement of backend services and CI/CD pipeline integrations.
  • Develop and maintain secure, scalable software that supports automated software release and monitoring.
  • Collaborate with infrastructure and operations teams to onboard applications into a secure development ecosystem.
  • Assist in ensuring compliance with RMF, STIGs, and DoD cybersecurity policies through automated enforcement in pipelines.
  • Contribute to the troubleshooting, documentation, and enhancement of release pipeline processes and tooling.
  • Participate in Agile sprint ceremonies and team collaboration activities.

Required Skills & Experience:


  • BA/BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in software development, including backend or full-stack environments.
  • Hands-on experience with Python, Java, or another modern programming language.
  • Familiarity with version control (e.g., Git), CI/CD pipelines, and Agile development practices.
  • Working knowledge of containerization tools such as Docker and orchestration frameworks like Kubernetes.
  • Understanding of secure coding practices and basic cybersecurity principles.

Desired Skills & Experience


  • Experience supporting software development in AWS GovCloud or other IL5 cloud environments.
  • Familiarity with GitLab CI, JFrog Artifactory, Jira, or SonarQube.
  • Exposure to Infrastructure as Code tools such as Terraform.
  • Knowledge of RMF processes or experience contributing to ATO efforts.
