DataStage Engineer | About You
As a DataStage Engineer, you are responsible for architecting and refining high-performance ETL solutions with IBM DataStage to ensure scalable, reliable enterprise data integration. You bring deep technical expertise in ETL frameworks, strong SQL skills, and experience working with complex datasets across various sources and targets. You thrive in both independent and collaborative environments, take full ownership of deliverables, and proactively solve data issues. Your attention to detail, customer focus, and clear, consistent documentation makes you an essential member of any data engineering team.
DataStage Engineer | Day-to-Day
- Design, develop, optimize, and maintain IBM DataStage ETL jobs to extract, transform, and load data from multiple systems into target environments.
- Create reusable ETL components, job templates, and workflows, following best practices and coding standards.
- Troubleshoot and resolve ETL job failures, performance bottlenecks, and data quality issues.
- Collaborate with data architects, analysts, and business users to translate functional requirements into technical specifications.
- Schedule, compile, and deploy DataStage jobs to test and production environments using automation and version control tools.
- Maintain and update documentation for ETL processes, data mappings, and system dependencies.
DataStage Engineer | Skills & Experience
- 5+ years of professional experience in ETL development, with at least 3 years of hands-on experience using IBM DataStage (Server & Parallel jobs).
- Proficient in developing complex ETL logic using DataStage stages such as Join, Sort, Aggregator, Transformer, and XML.
- Strong SQL development and query optimization skills with relational databases like Oracle, DB2, or SQL Server.
- Solid experience with UNIX/Linux shell scripting, FTP, job scheduling tools (e.g., Control-M), and basic networking concepts.
- Familiarity with data warehouse design principles, performance tuning, data quality frameworks, and dimensional modeling.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
