We have a Payroll Specialist position available in Eden Prairie. This person will effectively support the payroll function on a semi-monthly basis and serve as a liaison among the company, payroll vendor, and state agencies as applicable. The Payroll Specialist will support the Accounting team through reporting and other communications.
Responsibilities:
- Payroll administration including semi-monthly payroll and setting up new employees in payroll service and accounting service. Review, analyze and check payroll reports for accuracy and record necessary adjustments or corrections through journal entries or other established payroll procedures.
- Gathers and interprets reports related to payroll processing.
- Prepares payroll journal entries and payroll reconciliation between G/L. Review of quarterly payroll reports for accuracy and completeness.
- Supports reconciliation as necessary between systems, i.e. payroll, BST, and benefit vendors invoicing.
- Preparation of monthly paid time off (PTO) accrual and reconciliation
- Completes requests including employment verifications, garnishments, and duplicate W-2s.
- Assist with state business, UI, and WC registrations for payroll purposes. Relay state notifications to HRIS/payroll vendor as necessary,
- Reviews timesheet entry of all employees for accuracy, opening, dating, stamping, and distributing mail, and handling miscellaneous requests of Controller and Assistant Controller.
- Maintains employee records in the financial accounting system.
- General benefits reporting such as health/dental, 401K, ESOP administration, and auditing.
- General administration such as paperwork, copying, printing, faxing, and using a computer
Minimum Requirements:
Education
- A bachelor’s degree in Accounting or an affiliated degree is preferred.
Experience
- At least 8 years of experience in similar field.
- Basic accounting and bookkeeping experience required.
- HR/Payroll designation (e.g. CPP, PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP) preferred.
- Expert level proficiency in MS Excel (e.g. pivot tables, vlookup, ability to develop and maintain advanced excel reporting).
- Experience in data entry, payroll, general accounting principles and knowledge of the general ledger and how it relates to other journals.
- Highest degree of professionalism, integrity & confidentially, demonstrated discretion in the handling of highly confidential information.
- Strong knowledge of wage & hour, employment laws and familiarity with applicable state and federal regulations.
- Strong communication skills across all organizational levels. Ability to train and educate.
- Strong ability to analyze data and organized into user-friendly reporting.
- Strong commitment to service.
Physical Demands of Position:
Ability to see, hear, listen, with use of dexterity in hands for clerical duties within the job. Ability to perform extensive computer work, being sedentary for extended periods.
