POSITION OVERVIEW
As an Estimator you will provide accurate, timely, and competitive cost estimates for exterior and interior static and digital signage projects. You will leverage drawings, specifications, and historical data to develop detailed material, labor, equipment, and installation costs. You will also collaborate with Sales, Design, Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Outsource Manufacturing to drive profitable bids, maintain margin integrity, and support continuous improvement across the estimating lifecycle.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Estimation & Cost Engineering
- Review architectural drawings, specifications, and scope documents; perform detailed quantity take offs for materials, labor hours, equipment, and installation resources.
- Build preliminary bills of materials (BOM) and bills of labor (BOL) in the ERP/estimating system, applying standard production rates and fabrication methods.
- Analyze cost impacts of materials, finishes, illumination technologies, and installation conditions to recommend cost effective solutions and value engineered alternatives.
- Provide rapid pricing for change order requests, design revisions, and budget updates during pre-construction and project execution.
- Conduct post award variance analysis between estimated and actual costs; capture lessons learned to improve future estimates.
Cross-Functional Coordination & Project Support
- Partner with Supply Chain and Outsource Manufacturing to obtain current pricing and production capabilities.
- Direct field personnel via survey requests, feasibility checklists, and technical input forms; integrate returned data into estimates.
- Serve as estimating subject matter expert (SME) in bid/no bid reviews, design charrettes, and project onboarding meetings, clearly communicating scope assumptions, inclusions/exclusions, risks, and margin expectations.
- Compile complete estimate packages, including BOM, BOL, assumptions, and risk register, for seamless transition to Project Management and Operations teams.
- Provide ongoing cost consultation throughout fabrication and installation phases as required.
Continuous Improvement & Reporting
- Maintain and enhance estimating tools, cost libraries, and production rate databases in collaboration with Operations and Finance.
- Identify cost drivers and recommend process or material improvements that reduce cost or cycle time.
- Generate routine reports on estimating throughput, accuracy, margin performance, and value engineering savings for departmental scorecards.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Engineering, Industrial Technology, or related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.
- 5+?years of estimating or cost engineering experience in signage, architectural elements, curtain wall, or comparable manufacturing/construction industries.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and ERP/estimating software.
- Demonstrated proficiency with AI driven tools and software for estimating, data analysis, and documentation automation.
- Advanced ability to interpret architectural and shop drawings, specifications, and survey data.
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to distill complex cost data for diverse audiences.
- Working knowledge of lean manufacturing, value engineering principles, and building codes applicable to signage.
- Ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast paced, high volume bid environment.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Manual dexterity to operate a computer and perform administrative tasks. Visual acuity (with correction) and the ability to speak and hear. Primarily sedentary work, with occasional walking, standing, or carrying of light materials.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Primarily office-based, with occasional visits to project or manufacturing environments. May encounter standard conditions such as noise, dust, or factory activity.
TRAVEL
Minimal travel is required (<5%).
COMPENSATION
