Job Summary
The New Projects Developer will lead the formulation of investment theses and drive early-stage project development efforts. This individual will play a key role in identifying, evaluating, and advancing utility-scale solar and storage energy projects from concept through to site control and interconnection milestones. Ideal candidates bring a blend of analytical acumen, commercial insight, and project development experience in the renewable energy sector.
Responsibilities
- Develop, research, and present the investment thesis for solar and storage energy projects in targeted markets.
- Conduct macro- and micro-level market research including policy, regulatory, and incentive landscapes, working closely with development analysts.
- Evaluate market entry opportunities and recommend regions or technologies aligned with strategic goals.
- Lead the development and execution of renewable energy projects from inception to permitting.
- Develop and manage project schedules, budgets, and resource allocations to ensure timely and cost-effective project delivery.
- Coordinate with internal teams, external contractors, and stakeholders to drive project progress and resolve issues as they arise.
- Implement project management best practices to optimize project performance and mitigate risks.
- Identify potential risks and uncertainties associated with renewable energy projects, including technical, financial, regulatory, interconnection, and environmental risks.
- Develop risk management strategies and contingency plans to mitigate project risks and ensure successful project outcomes.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments and scenario analyses to anticipate and address potential challenges throughout the project lifecycle.
- Collaborate with internal teams including land, finance, engineering, trading and analytics, and policy and regulatory to assess project feasibility.
- Prepare internal investment memos and contribute to IC (Investment Committee) presentations.
- Represent the company at industry events, conferences, and with local/regional partners.
- Other duties assigned.
Location: Houston, TX, Hybrid/ Remote schedule is the preferred location. Travel is frequent and up to 50% pending the circumstances or stage of the projects under management.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, economics, business administration, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
- 2 – 4 years of experience in renewable energy project development preferred, with a focus on project management, permitting, and risk management.
- Strong understanding of renewable energy technologies, market fundamentals, and regulatory requirements.
- Proven track record of successfully managing complex projects and delivering results on time and within budget.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, analytical, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Professional certifications (e.g., PMP, LEED AP) are a plus.
