We are seeking a Senior Systems Administrator to ensure the availability, performance, scalability, and security of systems across hybrid environments with a strong emphasis on containerized infrastructure and Kubernetes orchestration. This role requires experience in high-availability production environments and a deep understanding of modern infrastructure automation, monitoring, and container operations. You will join a technology-forward payment processing company where security, compliance, and reliability are mission-critical.
This role reports to the Systems Admin, Team Lead.
This is a remote position located in Ireland. Candidates must reside in Ireland to be considered.
- Administer and support Linux- and Windows-based systems across cloud, virtual, and on-premises environments
- Design, deploy, and maintain containerized applications using Docker and orchestrate workloads with Kubernetes
- Collaborate with DevOps and development teams to support CI/CD pipelines, automate deployments, and troubleshoot infrastructure and application issues
- Build and maintain infrastructure as code using tools like Terraform, Helm, or Ansible
- Implement and manage monitoring, alerting, and logging for containers and system services
- Lead system upgrade efforts and ensure systems are patched and compliant with industry standards
- Contribute to a culture of continuous improvement by automating repetitive tasks and workflows
- Document infrastructure, processes, and deployment procedures thoroughly and consistently
- Participate in an on-call rotation to provide after-hours support for production systems
- Assist in the planning and execution of disaster recovery and high-availability strategies
- Maintain and enhance our existing virtual environments (VMware) and cloud-based infrastructure (AWS preferred)
- Support security efforts including hardening, vulnerability mitigation, and compliance with PCI-DSS and OWASP standards
- Partner with cross-functional teams on infrastructure planning and scaling initiatives

- Proven ability to administer, scale, and secure containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) in production
- Familiarity with Hypervisors (Proxmox, Vmware)
- Proficiency with Linux system administration, particularly RedHat/Oracle Linux
- Strong scripting and automation skills (Bash, Python, PHP, or similar)
- Familiar with cloud-native technologies, microservices, and networking in a Kubernetes context
- Experience with AWS infrastructure and services (EC2, EKS, S3, IAM, etc.) is a strong plus
- Proficient in managing and troubleshooting networking issues (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, SNMP, etc.)
- Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitLab CI, or ArgoCD
- Knowledge of web servers and proxies: Apache, Tomcat, NGINX
- Experience with load balancers, GSLB, and WAFs (Imperva, F5)
- Competent with database administration: (SQL Server)
- Understanding of encryption technologies (TLS, RSA, AES, etc.) and security standards (PCI DSS, ISO 27001, OWASP)
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to collaborate across teams
- Proficient using Word, Excel, Outlook and ability to multi-task
Education/Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or equivalent experience
- 7+ years in a systems administration, infrastructure, or DevOps role supporting mission-critical systems
- 3+ years of hands-on experience managing Docker containers and Kubernetes clusters
- Experience supporting applications in regulated environments (PCI, HIPAA, etc.) is preferred
